I have NO interest in retirement homes. They charge a fortune and have some very strict requirements. If you become less independent, they want you OUT and into a long-term care facility. My aunt went through this, and it was a nightmare once her Alzheimer’s became a serious concern.
Yes, it’s great if you’ve got the money to pay for those nice places. If not, better hope you die before you get too old and end up in an awful dive. :-(
I went to visit a retirement home that others had recommended to me for my folks. It was very nice, it also had a $20,000 buy in and was $8,000 per month. It was for rich people in good health, they were not interested in anyone who did not meet those qualifications.
A la carte pricing. “Oh, you want heat?” “Water?” “I’ll put in the order and it should be done around the holidays.” Remember to tip the maintenance people.
Actually we are ALL in SOME debarcation room for leaving this planet…the lucky ones are the ones that lived long enough to BE in a nursing home or assisted living place!

Perhaps they have a try before you buy plan.

Occasionally hiring help is a cheaper option.

the rates are ridiculous, getting a hotel room would be cheaper
