It would be better to be a dummy than an idiot. Being a dummy can be changed if you learn about something and then you won’t be dumb about it anymore. But being an idiot seems to be a more permanent condition. I’ve known people who have always been idiots.
If you try to do your own plumbing, probably both. I have guys showing up today to repair the plumbing I paid a guy who assured me that he had been doing plumbing, taught by his Dad, and didn’t need no license. They want $16000. The alternative is worse.
Labels aside, I knew someone who worked as a home contractor who steadfastly refused to take on either electrical or plumbing work. Those he left to the professionals.
Husband grew up in a family with traditional roles. In my family, lacking in sons, the daughters had to help with the “guy things”.
He was shocked that I could use tools as his mother and sister could not – probably, knowing them, they did not know a hammer from a saw.
We have worked on many a household project together over the decades and he has learned to accept that women can do woodworking and house repairs same as men.

Most of being smart is knowing what you are a dummy at. (Yes, Mum, that’s ungrammatical.)

I’d go with the ‘dummy’, an idiot wouldn’t ask for help.

I go with Dummies.

I never like comics that are so unrealistic. An old experienced married man like Ben would never give his wife such an easy opening.

Funny that she can answer Ben’s question but if SHE asked that, he’d be treading on thin ice, no matter what.
