Read an article where many parents are carrying this forward by paying their grown kids’ bills from their retirement funds. They don’t want the kids to face reality.
I’m 72, talking to my kids last night I mentioned I didn’t recall having any daily homework duties until I was a junior in high school. That excludes periodic projects like science fair, occassional english essay, even some shop work. But my grandkids, 3rd grade thru 5th grade have about an hour and a half worth of homework every the first grader has a half hour worth. This isn’t counting Swim team, baseball, piano, soccer practices. Wow, we babysat for a few days and couldn’t believe the workload for kids and parents. They attend a huge private school, expensive, great teachers and programs. My wife and I grew up without all that and managed to get masters degrees from good universities. It’s hard for us to imagine our grandkids life. I very likely would have run away from home!

Unfortunately too many parents wind up doing that shild’s homework. That does not help a child. Guiding and answering question helps them to learn.

Take a look around. Is the kid sitting there working with you or is he watching TV?
