    Something I read: “Today, my girlfriend screamed at me for throwing away her food, calling me a sick, controlling psycho. When I pointed out that the seafood pasta I tossed was a week old and almost certainly rotten, she dug the box out of the trash and ate it to prove a point. Now she’s got food poisoning and somehow it’s my fault.”

    The date on milk is NOT an expiration date. It is a date that is “to sell by”, which means it is still good. I rarely have milk last past that date, but when I do, it is still good. I have let milk start to sour on purpose and would use it in baking or cooking with delicious results.

    We don’t drink coffee or have children around so we don’t use a lot of milk. I used to buy a quart of milk and throw out a quarter to half of it when it went bad (by looking and tasting not just by date on the package).

    Before Covid came along husband had us eating out lunch out daily and dinner out 3 or 4 nights a week so the house was not overloaded with food – we would basically buy for that night’s dinner and had some basics and snacks in the house.

    When Covid came along we had to eat home (made ME happy). We attempted to order food delivered, but had trouble with both of our attempts.

    So we braved our way out to buy food. Husband was buying boxed mixed foods – potatoes au gratin and such.

    Milk would be needed, but would go bad from one packaged food use to the next as would not otherwise be used. I suddenly remembered my Home Ec class from over 50 years ago – canned evaporated milk (not condensed milk) is the same as regular milk with some of the water removed. We have been buying it since for cooking.
