Never been able to keep secrets from my husband, so a surprise party for him would have to be planned by someone else and without me knowing about it as well. He just has to look ast my face and he’ll know I am planning something or hiding something.
I never tell anyone about any birthday plans I make. I actually blindfolded my husband and drove him to the train station. He had no idea until he heard the train and then I pulled off the blindfold and handed him our Business Class tickets. He had both tears in his eyes and was like a child at 50—he had never ever taken the train before in his life. We spent a luxurious time in Seattle doing things he never did before (ride a ferry, stay in a four star hotel, dining upper class). He still will tell everyone how I confused and surprised the hell out of him.
I can’t really plan anything to surprise him as we are together almost 24/7. Before Covid I went to a client in Manhattan once a month and went to my embroidery club and had lunch out alone one morning a month. Since Covid came along the furthest apart we get is when he is upstairs in the office on his computer and I am in the kitchen on my laptop (as opposed to my desktop across him in the office). He is next to me as I am reading comics right now.
However as of this past September I have been back going to my embroidery club meetings – so I managed to fit in a stop at Walmart on the home in December and buy him a surprise gift – normally he buys his gifts and I wrap them. I don’t get gifts at my request as there is nothing I need for or want – and it took decades for me to convince him that this was not “she says she doesn’t want anything, but brother – you better buy her something expensive”.
baraktorvan’s idea would not work for me – he suffers from motion sickness – if he is not driving we cannot go anywhere and he cannot rid on trains, buses, airplanes… due to same.
