What dysfunctional dunderhead would advise them that?! As a child growing up, we learn from the safety segments on all those kiddie shows in the 60’s that it’s not safe to seek shelter under any type of tree during a thunderstorm.
Honestly, if I was caught in this type of storm and I was within walking distance from home, I think I’d just make a run for it! Nowhere outdoors appears safe to me in this type of weather.
Lee Trevino (who was hit by lightning during the 1975 Western Open) famously said that the best defence against lightning was to point a 1-iron at the sky because “even God can’t hit a 1 iron”. I guess it didn’t work out that well for him. :)
yes, is a good idea to stand on wet ground with puddles while on an electric storm, just besides a tree that can attract lightning, instead of just being on a dry place with a roof and protection, even if is near by. The internet said so
