Not a bad idea until people start choosing sides.

Remember when “neighborhood networking” was having a huge block party?? Loved those!

My wife does this and has been getting rid of redundant items (we consolidated households). I draw the line at delivering things. They want it, they can come get it.

I’m guessing this is marginally about NextDoor.com. It’s great idea, but their website was always so buggy for me, it was worthless. Guess I should probably just walk around the neighborhood and actually talk to people!

Try Freecycle.org for giving things away or getting them for free. It’s nationwide but organized locally.

Our community newspaper has gotten so thin, it is now the insert in the pile of fliers that come weekly in the roadside paperbox, instead of the other way round. When libraries become a .com, I’ll know that it’s time to shuffle off this mortal coil.

I lived all around the country, finding out the old fashion neighborhood is disappearing fast. for a lot of people a neighbor is somone who you get free favors.

Both are true. Social media neighbourhood groups have helped settle a lot of disputes, find lost pets, and so many good things. They also become a place for bullies to harass others who are just trying to get some justice or peace. People who are accused of an offence are tried and prosecuted on these sites before they are tried in court. I think anyone who uses these sites as a means to vilify another person without evidence should be removed.

I’ve seen a bit of both on the Nextdoor app for my neighborhood. It’s mostly good things though, people posting found pets, people posting lost pets. It was a good day when a neighbor linked up a lost pet post with a found pet post and made everyone’s day!

The most fighting I’ve seen on there was about whether someone should be feeding the stray cats in the area. That thread became super long and devolved into name calling and all sorts. I chose to stay out of that debate.

There’s a facebook group for our village. It’s about 95% people complaining about something or other. I’d say Betty wasn’t particularly missing out on anything.
