Great comic today! And did you know that after months of our Ontario stores closed, that as soon as they opened, there were lineups to buy things that weren’t needed? Like clothes.

I’m a good consumer, this way. For at least five years, I haven’t bought clothes I didn’t need. And I always keep my clothes until they’re worn out.

Tye-dye?

When my clothes are too worn to wear at a restaurant (remember those?) they become exercise or work clothes, and when they are too worn to wear outdoors, the cozy ones may become winter pyjamas for a while before landing in the rag basket, for a variety of uses.

I had a friend who died in 2004 and his GF gave me his clothes. I’m still working my way through them. I’ve bought socks and underwear in that time, but no slacks, shirts or jackets.

My wife informed me yesterday that one of my favorite shirts “is looking pretty worn”. Matched the jeans I had on.

I used to have a shirt like that, but my jeans had 30 inch bells. I sure do miss bell bottom jeans.

I but a lot of stuff at thrift shops. There are several within striking distance that are fairly picky about that they accept, so I can pickup some very nice things for a pittance.

I’m for the incineration of skinny jeans. I’ve yet to see anyone look good in them—some look emaciated and most look like they have sausage legs. Yet, they still seem to be the only option offered. Some other style needs to become fashionable, my mom jeans are getting thread bare.

Most men are not part of the problem. Women tend to be the ones constantly buying new clothes. But it does support a lot of jobs in the world.

I wear my clothes until they start getting holes in them. And buy mostly from thrift stores.

I could go on about my thrift store collection of Hawaiian shirts and junk jewelry and made-in-USA jeans, but really, I’m just glad current events are at a point of discussing Mom vs. Dad jeans. Happy trails!

I only throw away clothing if it is too holey to wear and can’t be used for rags. I got into a “buy nothing” group on FB and I can give away lightly used stuff although I simply don’t go through clothing that fast. I like to buy a few of anything comfortable and wear it out. I realized recently that I am still using a towel that my sister gave me 30 years ago. I have others but that one is still in use regularly. When I go to buy new jeans I usually find that the ones I was hoping to buy have been discontinued for the last 10 years.

T-shirt recycle: I buy a t-shirt and wear it until it starts to fade, get holes, and/or become a bit threadbare. I then take it out of my regular rotation and start using it to sleep in. Once it gets so threadbare that I’m practically nude, I recycle it as rags for around the house. Once those are too tattered to do much more, I toss them.

In more enlightened times, the most valuable recyclables were rags (for paper) and bones (for fertilizer.) Today you can’t even pay someone to take them off your hands for you…

I rarely buy new clothes unless they’re personal interest printed tees (Bowie, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe, The Expanse series) but my Big 6-0 is coming up in a week and I’m actually buying a DRESS for my party! It has pink roses on it! Pink tiara to match—-LOL!
