You are right. The A’s did not have a lot of money to spend on players but they could run a lot of analysis and make what money they did have work for them. My favourite baseball movie is “A League of Their Own” because one of my grandmother’s sisters played in that league.

I never thought about it but there are lots of great baseball movies but very few based on other sports.
