My plumbing repair jobs usually involve three trips to a hardware store. The first time I go, I get the wrong part. The second time I exchange the wrong part for the right one. The third time because I broke that part putting it on. The third time I go to a different hardware store…
The Old Sarge always said “it’s a 5 minute fix!” with absolute confidence, usually when the car wouldn’t start. Even when the kids were little, as soon as he said it, they’d get out of the car and go back in the house.
As a Canadian he could be referring to his local Home Hardware store, part of a Co-op. Home Depot also exists in Canada, but the Home Hardware might be close by in his neighbourhood. And you can buy a single screw or bolt from a large selection if need be. The closest one to me is the delightfully named Blight’s Home Hardware in Vancouver. “Easy Peasy” seemed to be out of use until recently – now I hear it all the time.

Also “Watch this!”, “I can make it!”, “You’re not doing it right!” and “I’ll have this fixed in no time!”
