Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for August 14, 1994
Transcript:
Nate: I bought a program! Dad: Great! Nate: Will you show me how to score a game, Dad? Dad: Sure! First of all, each position has a corresponding number. For example, the pitcher is number one...or is the catcher number one? I can't remember...Anyway, when a play occurs, you use the numbers to record it. So a groundout to third base would be six-to-three. Nate: Isn't third base number 5? Dad: You know, you're right. Third base IS five. Now, in the outfield... Nate: But wait! What if someone gets on a base? Dad: Um..well...I think you make a little diagonal line. Or maybe a dot. I'm really not sure. Nate: How do you record plays like errors and stolen bases and stuff? Dad: Well, I think you...you see, it's been a while since I...I....How humiliating. man: So for a triple, you'd make three little lines...
