Personally, my favorite book as a kid was “Banner In The Sky,” by James Ramsey Ullman. I found a way to sneak it into the strip a couple of years ago.

Yes, I’ve seen “Third Man on the Mountain” several times, and it is indeed based on “Banner In The Sky” — although, typical for a Disney movie, they introduced a romantic partner for Rudi who wasn’t in the book.
I’d have to dig back through my archives to find the exact strip where Banner In The Sky is mentioned; it was a storyline in which Nate’s dad made him sign a contract to read a certain number of books over the summer.
Nobody calls me Mr. Peirce. Lincoln is fine.
