Being bullied by Marcus is bad enough, but not these seventh graders are mean, too?!? This isn’t the first time it happened!

That joke wasn’t as funny as the one we’re gonna see next week where Nate tells Trudy about how mean that seventh-grader was, and Trudy gives the seventh-grader a piece of her mind. That one cracks me up every time.

No, comics are supposed to be drawn, or even just pictures. That is pretty much the only thing you can say for certain. While comics certainly started out as being witty, or satirical, you get a whole lot of different styles and forms these days that you can´t box it in. Big Nate is just as much a matter of telling the story of Nate Wright, in thick and thin, as it is about getting some jokes out. Don´t know if you know about these, but would certainly suggest going over other comics on this site such as Endtown, Santa vs Dracula, jumpstart or Starslip just to name a few that isn´t just about the jokes, but more telling a longer story, or getting into serious issues.Or outside this site you could mention things such as almost all Marvel and DC comics, Darkhorse comics are pretty much all dark without adding jokes. :)

I really feel for Nate. How awful.

Unfortunately, that IS 7th grade. Some places are worse than others. I moved to a “worse-than-others” as a freshman in high school, from across town. About 50 miles away geographically and a world away socially. I knew at first how bad it was, and was reminded when, almost 50 years later, I was at a dinner in my old neighborhood and found the same kind sociability and lack of false snobbery that I remembered. So sad!
