Risitas - I work nights and sleep days.
Don’t need the Viagra yet, but if you’re offering I’ll let you know when I need some.
@doc-toon:
Just a somewhat flaccid play on words…….
Reminiscent of the late, great George Carlin’s take on a double entendre speech from an ANTI-SMUT guy:
“Our thrust is to prick holes in the stiff front erected by the smut dealers. We need to RAM through some rigid legislation. It’ll be HARD on us, but if we all mount an assault together, we can PUSH this thing through. Together, we can raise the firm, upright standing of our community!”
It’s primarily a Southern thing, dating from late in the American Civil War. Food was hard to come by in the Confederacy, and someone figured out that, if you soak dried corn in a lye solution (cattle food), it re-hydrates. You grind that up and cook it, you got a relatively innocuous grainy paste that is somewhat nutritious. It’s really only worth eating if you put something with actual flavor in it.
@hymenoxis, as I understand it, the lye also helps make the corn starch easier to absorb–otherwise, much of the food value simply passes through. The native Americans did the same thing by putting a bit of fire-ash into the pot when they cooked their cornmeal.
Thanks for the description, Hymie, I already add craisins, raisins, walnuts, cinnamon, sunflower seeds, wheat germ and fresh or frozen strawberries / blueberries to my other hot cereals. They make them so much better!
Akenta, as you can see, the food’s what brought me here.
Hi Saucy! Good to see you.
Looks like I’ll miss Shika this AM but hope to see you this afternoon.
Hymie - Thanks for the explanation of what grits actually are. I’ve heard of grits for years, but since I’m not adventurous when it comes to new foods, I’d never eaten them. The descriptions I got never made it sound delicious, and now I know why. KS is close enough to the South to get things like chicken fried steak, biscuits & gravy, and BBQ, but it is rare to see grits on a menu around here. Of course, I’ve traveled plenty in the South, but could always find something else to order on the menu!
You know, JFri & cleo - I think you’ve got a great idea! I now wish I had taken a big bottle of BBQ sauce to Africa with me. It might have made eating there a lot more enjoyable!
Mr. Carlin - again - describing the experience of a Northener, after ordering ham & eggs for the 1st time, in a diner ‘way down South:
Looks at his plate:
“Hey, what’s that white stuff???”
Fry cook, from behind the counter:
“Hail, them’s grits!”
“Uhhh, they’re movin’, man……….”
In MY experience - 35 yrs in Florida - genuine grits are completely without taste. Salt, pepper & butter - all applied in liberal amounts - make the stuff taste very good (kind-a like salt, pepper & butter on a spoon).
Just one more reason I S U C K at golf! And docT? #Rodent invasion!!!!

Hi everybody!
I like this strip. I can sympathize with Wink and The lion (I forget his name.) I like to eat edible things too.
I can’t say that I have ever had grits before though. I would definitely like to try them though. They don’t seem to be popular up north.

Now, I tried three times today, and all three times the internet was obstinately refusing to load.
I thought of another locally famous gal for the sideshow, listed on an I-94 Exit East of Bismarck in Dakota: Buffalo Alice.
And then I was going to mention that grits sound kind of like lefse (Norwegian potato flatbread): bland as all heck, but not bad if you dress it up with melted butter, jelly, cinnamon and suger, or any combination thereof.
bmonk, I wouldn’t, but if I need something to liven up the lefse or grits, that’s what I’ll do! I posted at PB one time to Risitas how I love subway tuna subs LOADED with hot jalapenos, and his reply was, “a jalapeno sub with a little tuna to hold it together!”
In summer, I raise Scotch Bonnets and Habaneros, I sneeze, weez, burn my hands even with gloves on, when I clean them for eating BUT ITS WORTH IT!
I gotta agree with the jalapeno sentiment. And, for the love of breakfast cereal, y’all quit that hugging stuff. I had to fight through a spate of that back in my old MSN1.0 days…the chat room I frequented became infected with hugging, and it became an excersize in one-upsmanship. Quite tiresome, really. Carmy- my father was stationed at the NAS there for six years back in the ’70s, and my brother at Ingleside. There’s a hole-in-the-wall Greek restaurant on SPID that we always have to go to when we’re CC….
My wife gave birth next to a woman that she has kept in touch with. Both gave birth to boys who are now in their mid - twenties. This late winter, the other mother’s son, who was a videographer for the X games, was at a party and dived into a lap pool, or a shallow pool anyways. He is now a quad. It is such a shame when things like this happen to people. One moment of indiscretion is all it takes.
hyme - when you finish on the ship, I have a little work over here that you might want to take care of. I like someone who takes it upon themselves to be the cleaner. Now, if I could just find someone who would take it upon themselves to be the lawn mower, the pruner, the plant digger, the weed eater, the edger, the waterer, etc. Then I would be set.
Yea that’s little ole cache, who probably has his master wrapped around his little finger! And who says animals aren’t smart!!! LOL!! Cache is smarter than the average bear!!
Hyme - Good man. It is six time for you to knock off work and join us for a cocktail. Tomorrow morning you can start with watering at my abode. I have all the hoses and sprinklers.
I’ve just scrolled up throught the postings and found that I’ve been invited to cocktails. Thank you. A Grey Goose martini, don’t skimp on the vermouth, and don’t rinse the olive. Shake it with ice….shake it like a porn star, until you begin to regret your choice of profession, then strain it into a glass so cold that scientists follow you around asking how you got the glass so cold. Serve with a smile, and I’ll tip you twice the cost.
I’m feeling outnumbered here! Where are Akenta and Shika. I know where Joy and Carmy are. And where is Dawn? You can watch the British comedies later!!
I married a girl who made drinks like that., Terry, twenty eight years ago. Still going strong. When I have a bad day, she asks me if I want a martini….and suddenly it’s a good day.
served on a dry ice coaster,in a transparent chrome nickle vanadium fluted vessel temperature,,, indeterminably cold, your drink Sir hymenoxis as ewe lique it !! than-Q for the cleaning job !!
BBL if anybody is still here! I’m starving and since we have no grub here, I’ll have to scrounge some up myself! (cupboard doors slamming, nothing there, refrigerator door open, nothing there) GEEZ I’m going to starve tonight!!
“Farewell and adieu to my fair Spanish ladies,
Farewell and adieu to my ladies of Spain…
For we’ve received orders to sail back to Boston
Never the more for to see you again…”
‘Night, Akenta, I think I was the first to nickname Hymenoxis. Had no idea of the urban dictionary meaning - I don’t believe it exists in Canada but after research realized it’s not in the best of taste for those in the States. I hope, Hymenoxis that you will accept the nickname Nox or Hy.
i was just going to call hymenoxis men to be diffrent lol but i guess i can do nox.
well all im falling asleep at the computer its been a long week im so tired. see you all tomorrow. peace and love…. hey its only 10:16 here wow to bed b4 10:30 go me. lol
GOOD NIGHT TO ALL AND HI TO THE MORNING CREW TOMORROW!!!
I don’t remember if I told you all that my husband plays the guitar. He had an electric one, but now he has an acoustic.
Anyway, when he is out at sea, they often have like little concerts and such for the sailors to participate in and enjoy.
Well, my husband participates. He likes to play what he calls “The Love Song”. So he will tell everyone that he is going to play them that. Then he starts playing Ted Nugent’s “Wang Dang Sweet…” He really gets into the song and he howls and everything. You would laugh your arse off if you saw that.
Uh Hy– No more hugs for you. Not until you explain that. I wouldn’t know a gay hug if it reared up and bit me. My cousin’s best friend is a mom whose significant other is a mom, and together they are two “moms” to the sweetest little girl. I just had supper with them.
Akward, yes. But I have no problem hugging any of them. My female cousin is married to a man and they have two girls.
Anyways, I’m a gal who likes men, but I figure, live and let live. As I suspect you do too.
I apologize for not being more forthcoming with the “Hy” thing, but you caught me at a bad time. I think the Dark Haired Beauty is upset with my time on keyboard. She said “get off the %$^&&**$$ computer”….and I haven’t. Nudity was wasted.
Don’t stay up on my account Carmy. As I said, I’ll be toddling off soon. I’m just going to get ready for bed first, and then come and say good night. So if you aren’t staying, just say when you leave, okay?

My wife gave birth next to a woman that she has kept in touch with. Both gave birth to boys who are now in their mid - twenties. This late winter, the other mother’s son, who was a videographer for the X games, was at a party and dived into a lap pool, or a shallow pool anyways. He is now a quad. It is such a shame when things like this happen to people. One moment of indiscretion is all it takes.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
hyme - when you finish on the ship, I have a little work over here that you might want to take care of. I like someone who takes it upon themselves to be the cleaner. Now, if I could just find someone who would take it upon themselves to be the lawn mower, the pruner, the plant digger, the weed eater, the edger, the waterer, etc. Then I would be set.
