Sorry I missed Thanksgiving Day, **((((Tribe))))
But happy shopping this Black Friday! Even we in Canada have copied you and now start our Christmas shopping, although not with such gusto.
Terry, thanks for breakie. I’d love some French Toast and maple syrup, and of course some of DocT’s nuclear coffee!
Terry, we actually have our Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow (Friday). We’ve been doing that for some time. We did make some desserts today. We made a cheesecake on Wednesday night and it was gone in a flash. We have another one for tomorrow.
Good luck to the “girls” and the shopping spree. I never do that early morning shopping, too crowded and crazy for me.
Did you have a nice Thanksgiving?
Carmy, yes it was a nice day for all of us. My mother gets a little down at times because my sister passed away two years ago on November 15th. That’s difficult for her but she gets through it well. She was happy tha the rest of were with her. And the dinner was excellent thanks to Wolfangil!
Happy Friday one & all! Turkey pot pies were wonderful for a quiet dinner for two yesterday and now it’s back to cubeland. Thanks to everyone for sharing snippets of your day yesterday and the brief peeks into your lives.
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you around the toons.

good morning Terry, DocT, DFrog, Celecca, dcguys, Lewreader, Carmy, Dawn, & Marg
hope everyone’s turkey day was a good one. been too busy to stop by the last few days, and now i need to play catch up, but i wanted to say, “Hi,” and make a deposit in the Tribal Karma Bank first.

that’s the big problem with civil debate on any subject. where people are more or less anonymous, it doesn’t always stay civil. i saw a nice discussion between EMET and bmonk on another strip back when i first started commenting, and thought that it was the norm. boy did i learn fast!
my point, exactly. and why it’s a good thing they don’t happen here. (the heated ones, that is. here it stays good natured, which is one of the things i like about the Tribe)
@Shika, Juneberries are a relative of blueberries, often called Saskatoons or Service/Sarvice-berries. They are purple, not blue, and wonderful in pies, especially so with vanilla ice cream…
And the rant was at a quiet moment or hour or two, about how sad that the holiday which has been so well understood and embraced by so many is being hijacked by football and shopping and other poor substitutes.
And to Mrs Mopar lotsa good karma for your eye. I have bad eyes and nothing terrifies me more than going blind. If you can’t find an optomologist (sp) and her eye is hurting go to the ER or one of those clinics like Patient One Stop or Nason Clinic. Eyesight is precious.

Hello Tribe The only thing ranting about commercialization does is encourage the intensification of the commercial side. It’s like our shouts of ‘Less Less’ are interpreted as ‘More More’
I haven’t had but a sliver of turkey (honestly, just a sliver) and I’m dozing off at the ‘puter. And I’ve stuff to do. Sigh
I agree Lonewolf I bought my 1st computer back in 1999 on Black Friday. Doors opened at 6am, I had the stuff loaded into the cart by 6:30 (had to get the salesman to pull the various boxes from shelves high and low). Then I dashed to the checkout, which stretched all the way to the back and a little around to boot. This was before they had the funnel method where it’s just one line. There were 8 open registers and there were 8 lines all the way to the back. It was 11:30 when I was pulling out of the parking lot to head home.
That afternoon for some weird reason we went to the SPCA and found Stormy. Then I plugged in and waited for Y2K to take my computer out. Of course we all know what happened then.
I guess bargains are not enough to make the onrush of impatient shoppers worth the battle. Same thing at gas stations like Costco. If I am not there before the store opens I don’t bother, I’m willing to pay the extra to avoid the lines.
My wife’s kids left about 20 minutes ago and we are now alone except for LG’s mother who is going to spend another night. It is nice having her around and it is better than going home alone to her house after spending a couple of days with family. I have been lucky in my life. I have never had an in-law that I didn’t like.
bmonk I wasn’t worried. My company was crash crunching getting out the new booking system because it was based on the 00/00/00 format. In November ‘98 it started in Exports and we needed our computers upgraded to 456k. BPS came through and checked the computers and put stickers on the ones they had completed. It wasn’t until August of 1999, after months of complaints of how slow the freakin’ system was and being showed the sticker time and again, that they checked to shut me up and found I was still on a 356k.
So bottom line is I was screwed by Y2K, but it was because of the wetware, not the hardware. The computers were all upgraded and ready for the 00/00/0000 format with 3 weeks to spare.
We finally got up to speed, but because of the economy and budget cuts we have had to switch to a more ‘economical’ server system and it’s slowed down. Oh well, I have a job.
Cleo, I too haver never had an in-law that I did not get along with or like. It always ended up being the significant other that was the problem! LOL
In fact I still had get togethers with one of them until they passed on.
It has a lot to do with who you are too, Cleo!
The only outlaws I think of are bang, bang, shoot ‘em up types!! You know, Jesse, Clantons, Billy(AKA Billy The Kid), Doc Holiday, Belle Starr, etc. But that was more than 20 years ago!
I remember when my last (and first) wife told her family that she had asked me for a divorce, they replied “You can’t, he’s family.”
I had a very good relationship with my ex after our break up. I photographed her wedding to her new beau and spent every Thanksgiving with them until I met LG. The first camping trip I went on with my present wife was to the Long Beach peninsula on the coast of WA. I asked *LG how she would feel about going camping with my ex and her new husband? To my wife’s credit, she agreed.
When does your hubby finish seminary? It must be frustrating to work in retail at the same time. I forget what denomination you said you are, but you seem to have interesting things to say.
Too bad we can’t discuss religion- (a Tribal rule here). It makes for interesting conversation for some people.
Answer #1a
He only has threee more classes to go, then we can look at doctoral programs because he wants to teach. We’re Lutherans, and were both denied candidacy for ordained ministry. Both of our candidacy committees discerned other gifts that we could use. Most of the time, we’ve been okay with their decisions. Jeff has definitely that his true gift is in teaching - whether he’s in sales or on campus, he is always teaching.
Answer #1b
He had to take a break from school when Augsburg Fortress bookstores all closed - he was the store manager at the one here. As the store basically followed the campus schedule, he didn’t have to worry about Black Friday and all that. He’s now working at a Family Christian bookstore part time as the receiving clerk, and part time as a secretary at a Lutheran church. Ifhe ever graduates, there will be such a thrill of rejoicing arising from the omphalos of South Carolina that the world will be aware of it!
Answer 2
Thank you - I’m not always sure that what i have posted is interesting or if I’m being self-serving.
Answer # 3
Discussing religion is mostly overrated. Discussing life is more interesting, because then the conversation could naturally turn to one’s beliefs because two or more have initiated the topic. I’ve found that if you set out to talk ABOUT religion, the person tends to disappear and is replaced by title, denomination, faith system, and other labels. So, I sort of agree with Tribal rule.
This may be the longest post i’ve made. Sorry if too long.
Yes, it was quiet, but nice. Watched some football, over ate, set out to play cards or a board game in the evening and ended up watching “Band of Brothers”. Great program! Ended up going to Blockbuster so it culd be watched without all the FREAKIN’ commercials!
The tree is up, the inside decorations done. Moxie (the dog) has stolen and destroyed the first decoration of the season. The outside stuff will go up tomorrow.
My parents were up in Ohio visiting the grandson last week, and my brother accidentally shot Dad in the eye with a foam dart that had velcro on the tip. My 5 yr.old nephew, aunt, parents, brother and sister-in-law had been having a foam dart gun battle through the house. Dad’s eye looks bad - i saw him yesterday for Thanksgiving. Sounds like the same type injury.
Hello Terry, MoPar and Doc!Goodnight Tabby and celecca!MoPar, I read about that tragic story earlier today. My thoughts and prayers are with that family. I’m glad your wife’s eye was not seriously damaged.
Just finished my comic rounds, so am just making a very quick stop to say Hi! to the tribe!
celecca - Your post was not too long, and it was interesting. I have the same view about discussing religion. It should be a natural part of one’s life & conversation, not a subject to argue about.
((((Mopar)))) - Pass that hug on to your wife, and others who are in need of one! There was a couple found dead in Wichita on Thanksgiving, appears shot due to a home invasion/robbery. Two young children were home, and found wandering around by relatives who came to see why they didn’t show up for dinner. Tragic situation! (I don’t know the family, just saw it on the news.)
Did some “Black Friday” shopping, but not high-stress. Farm supply stores aren’t known for the mad rush, but they did have some great deals. (Waited until about 9 or 10 to go.) Also bought a used car on impulse - which if you know me is quite odd, as I’m anything but impulsive when it comes to shopping. But we’d been watching the used prices on this model, and with some inheritance $, I actually had enough in the bank to buy it. I think I’ve spent more $ this weekend, then I have all year. We went to Wal-Mart this evening, and when I balked at paying $6 for a bag of candy, my husband said it was nice to see the wife he knew was back! (Although he seemed fine with the purchases I had made - just think he was worried I would continue shopping like crazy.) I’ve got all his presents bought (no surprises for him, but he’s fine with that).
Football Story!
My family has always been football fans, especially Cowboy fans. My mother used to plan our Thanksgiving dinner around the Dallas Thanksgiving game. Dessert at halftime. Anyway, I would get bored and go hang out with my friends down the street. Every once in awhile we would hear whooping and clapping from my house. Everyone would look at me and I would say, Dallas just scored. Sometimes that wasn’t good enough for my oldest brother. He would come out on the porch and yell something like “Go Dallas!” or “Cowboys Touchdown!” So that’s where I come from.
Carmy back before the prick Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys and fired Tom Landry, all the neighbors knew when a Cowboys game was on, (Green Bay, too for that matter!LOL!) They could hear me yelling and screaming, and my DEAR BEST buddy dogs, Teddy and Gallagher would join in the fray by barking and barking everytime I yelled! Oh good times!
Yes indeed, MoPar, that was a complete and utter disgrace! That was the day I began rooting against the Cowboys and I never thought that would EVER happen! Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry, and Tony Dungy are/were about the classiest coaches I’ve ever seen!
MoPar, I’m a UT Longhorn fan too!
I told a story some time ago about Tom Landry that some of you may have missed. The football coach when my mom was in high school became the principal at my elementary school many years later. Prior to coaching at my Mom’s high school, he coached at a different high school. One of the players on that team was Tom Landry.
My old principal was a very kind man. He was extremely proud of Tom and the Dallas Cowboys. When he passed away, Tom came to our town and served as a pallbearer for his former coach’s funeral.
I did go to a Longhorn game on a Thanksgiving day many years ago. It was freezing cold in Austin and we weren’t prepared for that. We had Jack in the Box for Thanksgiving dinner. A few years later my whole family went to Dallas to see the Cowboys play on Thanksgiving. I stayed back home with my aunt and had a very nice Thanksgiving with her and my cousins.
MoPar, I am SO busted!! My head is hanging in deep shame! I’ve just been following up on their games in the newspaper. I’m rooting for McCoy to win the Heisman.
I’ve never been without a dog since I was 3 years old. Except for certain times while in the military. Although I had a stow-a-way while I was in basic training the first time. Albeit only two days! LOL
Excuse me, did I accidentally stumble upon the 24 hr. football network. Heck I was looking for the Playboy channel. Everybody is looking to score and do a dance in the end zone. LOL
Hey Terry, I already admitted that I googled.
BTW, I did see James’ reply. i may not known him personally, but I feel like I know him through you. I also admire how well he is doing in FFB.

Happy digestion day, tribe.
The tree is up, the inside decorations done. Moxie (the dog) has stolen and destroyed the first decoration of the season. The outside stuff will go up tomorrow.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Mopar,
Good to hear the news about Mrs Mopar’s eye!
celeconecca about 15 years ago
My parents were up in Ohio visiting the grandson last week, and my brother accidentally shot Dad in the eye with a foam dart that had velcro on the tip. My 5 yr.old nephew, aunt, parents, brother and sister-in-law had been having a foam dart gun battle through the house. Dad’s eye looks bad - i saw him yesterday for Thanksgiving. Sounds like the same type injury.
I’m glad Mrs. MoPar will be okay.
cleokaya about 15 years ago

G’night all.
Off for a cold turkey sandwich, then my usual infusion of Ugly Betty, followed by a cozy mystery.
Do I know how to have exciting Friday nights or what?
Until the morrow, Tribe. May sweet yapping follow you throughout the night.

Hello Terry, MoPar and Doc! Goodnight Tabby and celecca! MoPar, I read about that tragic story earlier today. My thoughts and prayers are with that family. I’m glad your wife’s eye was not seriously damaged.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Hello Carmy
carmy about 15 years ago
Are you all turkeyed out? Daughter #2 made another delicious cheesecake. Oy!
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
See you all later!
carmy about 15 years ago
Football Story! My family has always been football fans, especially Cowboy fans. My mother used to plan our Thanksgiving dinner around the Dallas Thanksgiving game. Dessert at halftime. Anyway, I would get bored and go hang out with my friends down the street. Every once in awhile we would hear whooping and clapping from my house. Everyone would look at me and I would say, Dallas just scored. Sometimes that wasn’t good enough for my oldest brother. He would come out on the porch and yell something like “Go Dallas!” or “Cowboys Touchdown!” So that’s where I come from.
carmy about 15 years ago
Goodnight Doc! Hi Rmom!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
That’s an funny story, Carmy. Our familly did the same type of antics for T-Day games!
Good Evening Rmom!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Good Night Doc, see ya in the AM
carmy about 15 years ago
Terry, thanks, at least now I know it was normal.
SGIBeachbum about 15 years ago
Yes, Carmy, it was normal, and now you are a Gator fan!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Carmy back before the prick Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys and fired Tom Landry, all the neighbors knew when a Cowboys game was on, (Green Bay, too for that matter!LOL!) They could hear me yelling and screaming, and my DEAR BEST buddy dogs, Teddy and Gallagher would join in the fray by barking and barking everytime I yelled! Oh good times!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
And Detroit knew what winning was!
SGIBeachbum about 15 years ago
Tom Landry was one of the classiest coaches EVER, and the way Jerk Jones fired him was inexcusable.
SGIBeachbum about 15 years ago
Good evening Dry
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Mopar, you’ve got that right!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Yes indeed, MoPar, that was a complete and utter disgrace! That was the day I began rooting against the Cowboys and I never thought that would EVER happen! Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry, and Tony Dungy are/were about the classiest coaches I’ve ever seen!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
MoPar I’m talking about Vince’s days at GREEN BAY!!!
carmy about 15 years ago
MoPar, I’m a UT Longhorn fan too! I told a story some time ago about Tom Landry that some of you may have missed. The football coach when my mom was in high school became the principal at my elementary school many years later. Prior to coaching at my Mom’s high school, he coached at a different high school. One of the players on that team was Tom Landry. My old principal was a very kind man. He was extremely proud of Tom and the Dallas Cowboys. When he passed away, Tom came to our town and served as a pallbearer for his former coach’s funeral.
carmy about 15 years ago
MoPar, I am a Texan so, “Hook ‘em Horns!**
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Dry, did you know that Tom Landry was one of Vince Lombardi’s defensive coordinators?
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
And his grandson is an offensive asisstant now with the Saints!
carmy about 15 years ago
MoPar, You are so right about the Redskins rule! I’m not familiar with Mac Brown. Is he coaching for the NFL now?
carmy about 15 years ago
Dry, that was a cute story about your poochies rooting with you during the football games!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
I’m with you Carmy. Anybody plays Texas and I have to root for dem “Horns”!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Why yes Terry, I did know that!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Yea, I know we are Mopar.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
I like your avatar, Carmy.
I need to find a snow wolf soon!!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Carmy, yes my SWEET dear dogs did! They would jump on me and wag their tails! They knew their mama! Man I miss them and it has been a long time!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
We are having a quick cake and open presents for James’ Birthday(today). Big 14, he now knows all………..
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Yea, MoPar, like I said before, we are OLD FARTS! No going back!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Be back in a minute!
carmy about 15 years ago
I did go to a Longhorn game on a Thanksgiving day many years ago. It was freezing cold in Austin and we weren’t prepared for that. We had Jack in the Box for Thanksgiving dinner. A few years later my whole family went to Dallas to see the Cowboys play on Thanksgiving. I stayed back home with my aunt and had a very nice Thanksgiving with her and my cousins.
carmy about 15 years ago
Dry, I still miss all the doggies we had. I don’t remember if any of them liked football though, hee hee!
carmy about 15 years ago
Terry, I’m sure you can find a snow-wolf. I found about 3 more snowmen pictures that I will be using as avatars.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Carmy, I have many wolves in the snow scenes, but I want something unique! LOL
carmy about 15 years ago
MoPar, I am SO busted!! My head is hanging in deep shame! I’ve just been following up on their games in the newspaper. I’m rooting for McCoy to win the Heisman.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
I’ve never been without a dog since I was 3 years old. Except for certain times while in the military. Although I had a stow-a-way while I was in basic training the first time. Albeit only two days! LOL
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Oh Carmy, how could you?
carmy about 15 years ago
Terry, what did I do now? More shame for me?
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Oh, I was talking about the coach, Mac Brown!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
I thought you were joking with Mopar about not knowing!! LOL
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Excuse me, did I accidentally stumble upon the 24 hr. football network. Heck I was looking for the Playboy channel. Everybody is looking to score and do a dance in the end zone. LOL
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Cleo
With Carmy, it’s turning into Longhorns 101. LOL
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Terry I thought James was going to be 15, or did I mix you up with someone else? Anyway, tell him happy BD!
carmy about 15 years ago
That’s old news, Terry. The only college football coach I hear about is Urban Meyer and that’s because I’m here in FL.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Sorry, Carmy!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Dry, He is 14 now. I told him you said Happy B-Day. He says “Thank you!”
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Carmy, college football coaches are so hard to keep up with these days!
carmy about 15 years ago
Ha ha ha, Terry. I was not joking with MoPar. I really didn’t know who Mac Brown was… but now I do thanks to Longhorns 101!
Hook ‘em Horns! The eyes of Texas are upon you…
carmy about 15 years ago
Terry, true true, but I can also blame the chemo fog for my duh-ness.
carmy about 15 years ago
Hey Cleo! How big was the turkey you BBQed?
carmy about 15 years ago

Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago

SGIBeachbum about 15 years ago
Happy Birthday JAMES!!
Tell him that one is from an old gray haired hippie gear head.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
Dropping in to say I’m glad you Yappy Nuts are still yapping after all the turkey. Better than the crowd at Chuckle Bros.
It’s been a long day here. I’m off to bed. I feel asleep at the library again, so I need sleep!
Peace and Love Tribe.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
I get lost talking football. I once rooted for the wrong team in High School.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Mopar, he knows about you! You’re into cars, hopped up ones. You got his attention easy!
He says “thank you for the wishes”.
And I also thank you!

carmy about 15 years ago
MoPar, is he doing well with the Titans?
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Carmy, Just messin with you on Vince Young, dear.
