Morning TRIBE! The world is mud-luscious and puddle wonderful
Good morning everyone.
Snow hit here before midnight. still snowing but melting on the streets. Good day to get work at home done and watch tapes on TV. Yes I said tapes like VHS. My mom doesn’t have modern equipment and I don’t want to teach her to go DVD. Forecast shows we might get 4.1” of snow worst will be further southeast. Also OK is getting hit harder. Sunday the sun will be out here and warm up.
Sorry I don’t post breakfast mine is too lite for menu.
Doctor Toon, It was a bit of a surprise to see you up that early.
You awake now, LuvH8?Good Morning kab2rb. If you’ve got an extensive tape collection, it could be very expensive to upgrade. Yet I slowly keep trying.
I don’t know about these blue ray things. Way much money and they made the pictures sharper than real life. You have to be like 20 feet away from the screen to be able to focus easily. What’s the point?
Partly cloudy & 76 here, yesterday, but this is going to be a rain day, with a cold front passing through. By the time I get back to work on Tuesday, it’ll be back into the 70’s again. Go figure.
Doc, that’s the same story here. Up in the 40s tomorrow and into the 50s on Monday.
Grog, I like the weather where you are at, but I also have a problem with missing the snow when I don’t see it. I will be spending a considerable amount of time in the Panhandle when we migrate to Texas!
Lonewolf, I’ve been to the panhandle a number of times on business, around the Amarillo, Pampa, TX area.
I’ve heard that area being described as the armpit of Texas. I am forced to agree with the area’s detractors.
Doc my wife cuts my hair too. The first time that she cut my hair she finished and asked me to take a look in the mirror. I noticed one spot on the top of my head that needed to be trimmed more. She had forgotten that she had removed the guard on the razor that sets the height that one wishes to cut the hair to. She took a swipe down top of my head and I noticed a look of horror upon her face. Suddenly it dawned on me that she had shaved a path right across the top of my head, a reverse mohawk, if you will. What got me is she said, “It doesn’t look to bad.” Right, like I was going to live with a bare patch until it grew in. I had to have her shave my entire head. LOL
Luv8 your getting closer to a/c weather. By late April/May we will be heading to 70’s weather.
By the way for my Rt shoulder I have checked on line. I will be seeing a hand specialist 4-5 who also works with upper exterminties and he doesn’t mess around. He does surgery too. I can’t miss to much from work. I will get more info from Dr. when I see him.
For VHS tapes when you tape repeatedly tapes wear out and doesn’t cost that much to replace. Only tape when needed.
Leaving for the haircut, but back for a quick minute.
Grog, the only reason I would go to the Panhandle is for the snow. I agree with the area in general. Although Amarillo is alright if you are visiting the historic sights.
Doc, in case I miss you, Have a Good Evening and I’ll see you in the AM. My pool leagues are usually late on Saturday. (P.S. I’m lucky with the gray so far.)
Hi Doc, Cleo, and Fellow Baby! Would you believe I just got up about 15 mins ago, and it is a BEAUTIFUL DAY!
Where’s my rake? I need my rake! And my garden shovel, where’s my garden shovel? :-D
It’s a beautiful day here in the armpit of the universe, makes it almost nice here.
I’ve got 13 pairs of earrings I need to put the hooks on, my eyes hurt already.
Lunch will be rolling into the BT about noonish. Tipala with a herb and garlic marinade, tomato flavored type of Rice-A-Roni ripoff and maybe some beets if I feel like messing with them. Right now It’s com see, com sah.
My kitty kat woke me up this morning hacking on the blanket. Had to turn on the light, see to the cat, get the blanket off, find the other blanket and try to get back to sleep. Didn’t work. Sigh
Poor Stormy’s hanging in. She’s so skinny and has chewed off a lot of her hair. But she still eats a little, begs for my lap and doesn’t seem to be in pain. She jumps and walks on everything on my desk just like she did a year ago. I didn’t have money to take her to the vet in the fall (and if it wasn’t for insurance we wouldn’t be able to afford our medicines or doctor trips either). Now I’m hesitant to take her because she looks like a case of willful neglect i/o broke owners.
Cleo rake some leaves, plant my little side garden with spring onions, radishes, lettuce, and perhaps spinach if I get out to get some spinach seed. I doubt Ihave any leftover seed. Once I start working in the soil, that’s where I’ll stay! I mainly want to get my onions in, I love those things!
I’m back and just in time. It just started raining on my last leg.
Dry, I just picked up some Inglehoffer at my local liquor store. I didn’t see any horseraddish though. I don’t think people are big on horseraddish in this town.
I like to put that style of mustard on my deli-like whopper sandwiches when I have them. That’s rare for me because it’s like jumping aboard the S.S. Cholesterol.
Dry, the liquor store chains in the Houston and Dallas areas have a sort of gourmet food section. Heck, they even sell chocolate!
On my last trip I picked up some southern style crab cakes there.
I didn’t see any hot mustard there, but then I prepare my own from the McCormick’s dry mustard. I don’t add much water to it so it’s nice & thick and hot.
Dry I am not sure if we are going to plant onions this year or not. Grog, I had forgotten about it but when I visited my cousin in Houston we stopped at a liquor store and saw the various little food items that they also handled.
Grog, Yes I forget different states have different liquor store systems. Some states sell the beer and liguor and wine in the grocery stores. That makes it nice because you can do it all in one trip!
What do you add to the dry mustard to make it hot?
I was looking at the current temps across the US. It doesn’t look like Spring for most of the country. Parts of CA, TX and The East side seem to be enjoying the Spring though.
Grog, I’m often up late because I usually take a nice long nap in the afternoon. I’m trying to get my sleeping time together instead of in shifts, but it’s hard.
Good afternoon/morning all!
Looks like the really nice weather is over with, and March is kicking back in. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.
Sorry to post and run, but now I have to get to work. I’ll be back when I’m back.
When I did the yard work at our house in South Texas, I wore my bikini top and some cutoff jean shorts. I figured I could work on my tan at the same time.
Here in KS its cold here but warmed up enough for the snow to melt on the streets. Snow fall didn’t last that long here thank fully. I haven’t even thought about mowing or a tan. But with my body type I would scare people off.
Have a great Sat. all. Its middle pm here.
I know, I know, it’s been years since we’ve had an outdoor report, but anyway, here we go.
The weather is fine today, with N,NW winds at around 7 mph. Thanks to Carmy and Bikesmith John, your humble correspondent was able to ride her bike 10.50 miles today, and observe nature. Lizards are appearing here and there on sun warmed walls, and the finches are starting to sport their mating plummage. The neighborhood road runner has been busy searching for meals. They eat small birds and lizards and snakes. The Chinese ring necked doves are out in abundance, but unfortunately, they’ve driven away the smaller mourning doves. There are no squirrels around here, but the Abert’s squirrels abound in the pine forests.
The Verde River has been flowing as high as 2000 cfs, and has claimed a life this past week. The annual Verde Canoe Challenge is the 27th, and I’m wondering if they may have to cancel it this year due to dangerous conditions.
Your humble correspondent did not enter this year, I regret to say. It’s always been a great time.
Hoping you all are enjoying your first day of Spring!
Hey Marg! Thanks for the update! 70’s here, spring onion planting time! Woo Who!
Certainly am enjoying this first day of spring! Catch up with you later, our roving correspondent!
Hello all, I just got back from town. We bought seeds for veggies and also helped LilG’s son put his stuff in storage as he moves from Montana to Alaska. He has no address yet so storage in WA is where his stuff shall remain until he does.
Hey Cleo, my man! How ya’ doin”? Got some of my garden dug and 65 onion sets out, and my radishes, got side tracked finding other things that needed done, so I never did get my lettuce and spinach in. I’m sure you know how that goes!
I should have said on a farm 3 miles from Hay Lakes, between Hay Lakes and New Serepta. My grandfather’s homestead is on the north shore of Lake Michelon.
Cleo there is nothing like the quiet and solitude of being in a garden, at least for me. I learned how to garden from my dad when I was a teenager. He had 3 big gardens. And from my mom, I learned how to can and freeze. I still freeze, but gave up canning when I had my kids. It is a LOT of work! And takes a LOT of time. I would like to go back to making my own sauerkraut though, but doubt that I will! And I have found a way to cook and freeze my hot peppers so I won’t can them anymore either.
Dry we can pickles, both cucumber and green bean. A friend canned some pickled beets for me this year, as I am the only one that likes them. I love sauerkraut, but I want mine with caraway seeds, it makes sauerkraut special.
Look at you farmers. All I can grow is some houseplants and I get those easy to care for ones. Oh, I left the hanging ones out on the porch and they froze. Yes, I am a plant killer.
Grog, did you take a nap? I did, for about 5 hours.
Carmy, if I had napped like you did, I would have shot my whole day. As it was, I slept through most of Stalag 17. Woke up just in time for the end. And then to house work I went.
Cleo I used to can pickles, BK, I made some good ones. I still sometimes do freezer pickles, They are good as a relish with meats. And yes, Caraway makes sauerkraut EXTRA special, I didn’t put them in when I canned them, but addied them when I cooked the kraut. And I used to make my own red beets too, again a lot of work, but worth it, BK. I have found some very good store bought, which I now buy.
Cleo, Oh, and I came across Dilly beans “on accident”! Loved them and now make my own, small batches at a time, I steam the green beans, only use fresh, for a few minutes so as not to lose the crispness and make a vineger, dill mixture, refrigerate for 24 hours and eat. YUMMY! I sometimes have them at work at my breakfast meal around ten. You wouldn’t believe what I call my breakfast on days I don’t eat cereal! My friends/co-workers laugh at me sometimes! And steal it off me when I’m not looking! LOL!
Dry, I made sure that pickled beets were on my list yesterday. I just finished having some.
That mustard I bought may not have been hot, but it easily wins a taste test over regular yellow mustard. I tired some on my corned beef tonight and it was excellent. That stuff would be great on deli sandwiches.
Dry almost any good mustard would be preferable to French’s. It’s like the Kraft singles of cheese. I like hot mustard, but give me a mustard with some distinctive flavor and I’d be happy with that.
Ladywolf I usually log in about the time the locusts have left and I scrounge crumbs. As usual there are Krispy Kreams in the cupboard for tomorrow morning.
Grog yes but sometimes a grilled cheese, even witrh the Kraft singles and French’s mustard, dipped in hot tomato soup, especially on a cold winter’s day, is pretty bleeep good! IMHO!
Dry, Grilled cheese and tomato soup was a staple of my Mom’s diet, but since I departed from her roof, those things have never touched these sweet lips. Mac & cheese is also a thing of the very distant past. She also liked to bombard me with PB&J sandwitches. I love peanuts, but not peanut butter. Though I like my hot mustard to come close to peanut butter consistency.
Just to explain that, as a kid I was forced to eat things because she liked them. She was a very finickly eater. After I managed to escape her influece, there was a whole world of dishes I had never even tried at home or restaurants.
Dry chile peppers would have “kicked up” my Mom’s Mac & cheese considerably. 99% of the stuff she saw on cooking shows in her day she would not have tried for numerous reasons. I’m glad that my taste buds wanted a little more gusto out of life.
Grog I love to try new foods and new restaurants, if they aren’t good, I don’t go back. I like to try new recipes also. I have so many cookbooks I don’t even use. Don’t know why I bought them, I guess it was a whim at the moment!
Carmy, I’m glad I didn’t either. Admitedly there are things I won’t eat, but the things I will eat far outweigh them. The opposite was true for my mother.
With very few exceptions, I will either not eat what I ate in childhood or not eat them the way my mother prepared them.
Grog, my Mom is a very good cook, but when I was growing up she had a full time job, so she didn’t cook very often. When she did cook though, YUM!! I do make some of the things she used to make because it’s good Mexican food.
Carmy, my Mom was a full-time homemaker. Every vegetable had the goodness boiled right out of them and all meat was cooked to the point of shoe leather.
I’d say my Mom’s style was a very bland variation of Irish/English fare, but even that does have flavor. Just go to an English or Irish Pub.
You got me stumped, Carmy. When I was growing up, it seemed like you couldn’t turn on the TV without seeing an O’Toole movie. I’m glad for the occasional Bond film thrown in.
I didn’t see anything special, other than the fat is what adds the flavor, Carmy. No real biggy there. I knew that. But when it comes to eating it, it’s best to limit the fat intake. As it is you’ll be climbing aboard the S.S. Cholesterol.
Grog I remember MAD MAGAZINE doing a take off on James Bond movies- it was hilarious. (I’m dating myself here.) Jaws was using ski cables or something as floss. LOL
Grog and Carmy there was a good movie with Peter O’Toole, but I foget the name of it, Something with a submarine. Now I liked that movie! But what was the name of it, LOL!

Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Grog the Inglehoffer I was referring to is Hot Mustard. Your liquor store sells mustard? LOL!
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
It’s a mustard, stone ground. Dry was talking about it last night. I decided to try it when I saw it on the food section shelvess.
It’s surprising that a place that sells, both, Mary and Caesar mixes, a variety of mustards etc, does not have horsraddish.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago

Dry, the liquor store chains in the Houston and Dallas areas have a sort of gourmet food section. Heck, they even sell chocolate!
On my last trip I picked up some southern style crab cakes there.
I didn’t see any hot mustard there, but then I prepare my own from the McCormick’s dry mustard. I don’t add much water to it so it’s nice & thick and hot.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Dry, oddly enough, the store that appears to have a little of every thing doesn’t have a dairy section. So, no milk & no fine cheeses.

Dry I am not sure if we are going to plant onions this year or not. Grog, I had forgotten about it but when I visited my cousin in Houston we stopped at a liquor store and saw the various little food items that they also handled.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Grog, Yes I forget different states have different liquor store systems. Some states sell the beer and liguor and wine in the grocery stores. That makes it nice because you can do it all in one trip! What do you add to the dry mustard to make it hot?

Happy vernal equinox!
Hoping you all are enjoying your first day of Spring!

cleokaya over 14 years ago
Dry I am glad that you had fun in your garden. I guess that I am going to have to learn to love it, now that LilG has started working again. Sigh!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Cleo there is nothing like the quiet and solitude of being in a garden, at least for me. I learned how to garden from my dad when I was a teenager. He had 3 big gardens. And from my mom, I learned how to can and freeze. I still freeze, but gave up canning when I had my kids. It is a LOT of work! And takes a LOT of time. I would like to go back to making my own sauerkraut though, but doubt that I will! And I have found a way to cook and freeze my hot peppers so I won’t can them anymore either.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Dry we can pickles, both cucumber and green bean. A friend canned some pickled beets for me this year, as I am the only one that likes them. I love sauerkraut, but I want mine with caraway seeds, it makes sauerkraut special.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
We bought some of our seeds today and will be starting cucumbers, onions, asparagus and I am forgetting some. Oh well.

Carmy, if I had napped like you did, I would have shot my whole day. As it was, I slept through most of Stalag 17. Woke up just in time for the end. And then to house work I went.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Cleo I used to can pickles, BK, I made some good ones. I still sometimes do freezer pickles, They are good as a relish with meats. And yes, Caraway makes sauerkraut EXTRA special, I didn’t put them in when I canned them, but addied them when I cooked the kraut. And I used to make my own red beets too, again a lot of work, but worth it, BK. I have found some very good store bought, which I now buy.
The Duke 1 over 14 years ago
Did I scare you all? 2-0 end of the first!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Cleo, Oh, and I came across Dilly beans “on accident”! Loved them and now make my own, small batches at a time, I steam the green beans, only use fresh, for a few minutes so as not to lose the crispness and make a vineger, dill mixture, refrigerate for 24 hours and eat. YUMMY! I sometimes have them at work at my breakfast meal around ten. You wouldn’t believe what I call my breakfast on days I don’t eat cereal! My friends/co-workers laugh at me sometimes! And steal it off me when I’m not looking! LOL!
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Dry, I made sure that pickled beets were on my list yesterday. I just finished having some.
That mustard I bought may not have been hot, but it easily wins a taste test over regular yellow mustard. I tired some on my corned beef tonight and it was excellent. That stuff would be great on deli sandwiches.

Well, Carmy, that does make a difference. I was glad to fall asleep as quickly as I did and still have some afternoon left to get some things done.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Dry almost any good mustard would be preferable to French’s. It’s like the Kraft singles of cheese. I like hot mustard, but give me a mustard with some distinctive flavor and I’d be happy with that.
Quabaculta over 14 years ago
Ladywolf I usually log in about the time the locusts have left and I scrounge crumbs. As usual there are Krispy Kreams in the cupboard for tomorrow morning.
I got to boogie. Have a good evening.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Grog yes but sometimes a grilled cheese, even witrh the Kraft singles and French’s mustard, dipped in hot tomato soup, especially on a cold winter’s day, is pretty bleeep good! IMHO!
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Dry, Grilled cheese and tomato soup was a staple of my Mom’s diet, but since I departed from her roof, those things have never touched these sweet lips. Mac & cheese is also a thing of the very distant past. She also liked to bombard me with PB&J sandwitches. I love peanuts, but not peanut butter. Though I like my hot mustard to come close to peanut butter consistency.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Just to explain that, as a kid I was forced to eat things because she liked them. She was a very finickly eater. After I managed to escape her influece, there was a whole world of dishes I had never even tried at home or restaurants.
