LADYWOLF you got me all confused (That’s not hard). I read the breakfast beverage menu and thought that was it. Oh well, haven’t done beer for breakfast in years. Then I thoughtDOC’S NUC COFFEE might be better for me (better for my health than SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED finding me drunk on the kitchen floor). Then I saw DIGITAF FROG’S capital suggestion of cold pizza. As usual, I’ll have all the leftover deserts the piggies haven’t eaten.

Good morning, tribe! Let’s see… the good news is my finger where I got stung by a wasp is almost back to normal. Just a few extra wrinkles where the skin got stretched when it was swollen. Lew - How did your a/c infect mine? Ours is set for 79, up to 83 already. We’ve got a geo-thermal system, so we watered the underground grid overnight. But since that didn’t help, had to put a call in for service. Not too many people have geos around here, so have to wait for a technician familiar with those. I hope he’ll come today, especially because the high is expected to be 97F. I dug a couple of portable fans out, so I won’t melt while I’m waiting. I certainly hope it won’t cost nearly as much as your bill to fix our system!

haven’t read the links yet, but i feel the need to note that my part of Canada is on the same (approximate) latitude as San Francisco. that stuff about the border being on the 49th parallel is only in western Canada. i have to drive nearly 3 hours north to get to the 45th parallel (and Santa’s Village in Bracebridge - his “summer home”).

Rmom…..good luck with your geo system. First I have heard of that kind of a/c and heat system. Hubby said they are very reliable…….does it work on the principal that the ground temp is constant? or does it work with underground springs?

    Some info would help.

In the meantime, I’ll have some of Doc’s Nuclear coffee with a cantelope half on the side.

MTLady - Ours work on the principal that the ground temp is around 50F. We’ve got a soaker hose buried with the grid, so we can soak the dirt, because when it gets too dry, it will pull away from the tubing with coolant. It is pretty efficient. No noisy outside unit which is nice, especially since nothing is exposed to hail storms or cottonwood “cotton”. Our grid is all buried at about 6 feet deep - taking up a good sized chunk of yard, but since we have 5 acres, it is no big deal. I’ve heard that other geo systems (especially with less acreage) have vertical shafts instead.

Good late morning here too late for good morning sign. Rmom I know what one means about cottonwood. Our central here we found out is older then the house. It’s above ground have to keep grass and weeds pulled away and hose down once in a while. Had the unit worked on once a year now since being here. Have to save up money hard to do with hubby being retired and me only pt. Went to Dr.’s today about lab results good and bad cholesterol look okay, I made a suggestion about cheaper meds so far it works, sad part sugar part is too high. I don’t drink much pop. take caffeine free tea to work. Stopped peanuts, now have to quite oatmeal cookies. Soon be lunch time for me.

Sleep well, Doc! MTLady - In KS the only place that’s semi-cool in the summer would be in a basement, and even that won’t stay in the comfortable range without some sort of a/c. When it stays in the 90’s or 100’s for days at a time, it is downright miserable without a/c. (I’ve done it before, so I know of which I speak.) We’ve got a wood stove, but it wasn’t part of the original design of the house, so only the area right around the stove is warm (or hot), but doesn’t keep the whole upstairs comfortable. We just use it for power outages during the winter.

I’ve got a CD to go with the textbook, so that helps some. The biggest problem is that we’re doing logirithms which require scientific calculators. Sojo - We’ve had our system for 15 years, so something wearing out happens. What is the pits is that they don’t make the type we have anymore, so they’ll have to put in something different if that chunk is the problem. (I don’t understand all of it, my hubby’s the engineer, not me.) At least the tech was able to add some coolant today, so it will work for now. But there is a leak somewhere, so it is just a matter of time…

Luv - A friend of mine is a math prof at the college my son goes to, and it took her several tries with the calculator to get the results the problem is supposed to have. I’d have to have help specific to the brand & model of my calculator. We’re on the 8th to the last lesson in the book, and he already passed the math entrance test for college, so if he doesn’t master it, I’m not too worried. He’ll be taking College Algebra in the fall, and the community college is great with helping the students if they need it. (Free tutoring is available, low prof-to-student ratio, etc.)

I am torturing them on and off. They (niece and nephew) are quietly playing their computer game in the bedroom. Maybe I should do something drastic? Turn off the TV?

Best plan: wait until it gets exciting or intense in the game, and then pop the circuit breaker!

    ~ Elderly Joke ~

An elderly lady on a cruise ship goes into the bar and orders a Scotch with two drops of water. The bartender thinks it’s kind of odd, but gives it to her. She tells him, “I’m on this cruise to celebrate my birthday. I’m 80 years old today.”

The bartender says, “Well, congratulations! Since it’s your birthday, this drink is on me.”

When she finishes her drink, the lady to the right of her says, “I’d like to buy you a drink, too.”

“Thank you,” says the birthday girl. “I’ll have another Scotch with two drops of water.”

“Coming right up,” says the bartender.

She finished that drink and the man on her left says, “Can I guy you a drink, too?”

“Sure,” she says. “I’ll have another Scotch with two drops of water.”

As the bartender gives her the third drink, he says, “Ma’am, I’m dying to know why you’re ordering Scotch with just two drops of water.”

The octogenarian says, “Sonny, when you get to be my age, holding your liquor is no problem. Holding your water, on the other hand, is a whole different matter.”

I started life with nothing. I still have most of it.

Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be.

It’s not life’s pace that concerns me. It’s the sudden stop at the end.

It’s not as hard to get older as it is to get wiser.

If all is not lost, then where is it?

My memory’s not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my memory’s not as sharp as it used to be.

RMOM Think of how low our electric bills are going to be this month with no AC. Oh well, think of how miserable it would be in January with no heat. Oh well, think of how SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED has to treat me with some respect, at least till I write that $7000 check. “If you were a real man you’d take those tools you bought and fix it yourself.”

Don’t say one word against slide rules. When I began my illustrious (that’s one word for it) college career, a Texas Instrument calculator cost $170. Excuse me, tuition was $230. I looked like a geek but I’d raise my hand and shout “Yes sir, 2.38 times 10 to the16. So I was off a few thousandths. Kept me on the Dean’s list. Kept me single.

I was working for Radio Shack when the first Texas Instrument “Calculator” came out. It had 2 inch high readout tubes, had the footprint of about half a typewriter ( about the size of a notebook computer for those too young), had 4 functions + - X / and cost $199.95. AND you had to plug it in.

Red haired schoolteacher The tourist had lost his way on a back road and stopped at the farmhouse to ask if he could be put up for the night. ‘Well, we’re a mite crowded, since there’s already someone in the spare room,’ replied the farmer. ‘But I guess you can stay if you don’t mind sharing the bed with a red haired schoolteacher.’

Then they zoomed off down the road, until they hit a curve at high speed and crashed. A farmer found them and called the police.

“Is either of them showing any sign of life?” asked the officer.

“Well, the first one was” replied the farmer, “until I turned his head around the right way.”
