Hello bmonk - We have a town near here, Lindsborg, KS That is a mostly Swedish community. Several years ago the King of Sweden visited it. They have a lot of nice Swedish items there.
I have been there several times but doubt I’ll have to to get there soon. There may be some stores there that could mail things. I think the do send things to other places. They have a few craftsman that hand make some items that were made in Sweden years ago.
They used to have a 5-star restaurant (the only one in Kansas) that had Swedish dishes. Later they added a pastry shop to it with very good items! However they closed about 8 years ago I think.
Looks like it’s quiet under the Big Top. I’m gonna watch The Fourth Kind on HBO. Yeah, money’s tight, but would you believe if I drop HBO my ‘package’ will be a little more pricey? Weird. So I”m going to work on my jewelry.
Hello HopeandJoy - Danny Bonaduce has done many things among them he was a child actor, probably you may know him as the small red haired kid on The Partridge Family. See here for more info on him if you want.
Happy Birthday, Josh!
Good evening, tribe!
Just got home after running errands today. While I appreciate the reason for the season, I’m not fond of the hustle and bustle of this time of year. Especially at Sam’s & Wal-Mart!!!
I dread to think what those stores must be like on the weekends, considering how busy they were this afternoon.
My sons’ semester grades were posted today, and it is time for Luv to put up a happy dance!
The youngest got a C in his College Algebra class, which means he won’t have to retake it for any reason. I think the rest of the classes he has won’t be near as much of a struggle for him - or for me to help him.
The best news is that my oldest son got straight A’s! He was carrying 9 hours, which is the most he’s ever carried before, so this was a real accomplishment for him. I will say that two of them were computer classes, so I expected him to do well in those, but wasn’t so sure about his technical writing class.
Josh I DO hope that you are having a happy birthday.
Thanks Sojo for the input…I DO remember the Partridge family. I know what you mean Rmom about the stores. One more Christmas program for me, this time with the church choir…Had the last Community Chorus sing this afternoon. I love the music but afterwhile…..all the activity. LonewolfHow did *James sing go??
Why didn’t we buy a frost-free Freezer 25 years ago? Maybe they didn’t make them???
Thought I would take advantage of this very cold day to defrost our freezer. (Sat the frozen foods outside) I will make my final trip to the garage to see if the coils at the top have finally released their ice. Lots of hot water in pans have done well on the other shelves. Good exercise at least.
Hi, Sojo & Hope&Joy!Hope&Joy - I know what you mean about all the extra activity. God didn’t give me the gift of rhythm or singing on key, but I do appreciate listening to talented people! The year our youngest was born, he played Baby Jesus for our church’s Christmas program, and my hubby & I played Joseph & Mary. Several rehearsals, and I think 3 performances to capacity crowds (1000+ each time). They wanted us to play Joseph & Mary again (they loved the fact my hubby has a real beard) and would have loaned us a newborn boy. (Son of friends who both sang in the choir). By that time, we had moved about 30 miles further away from the church, so decided it was too much for us to do again.
Thanks, Luv! - My sons (& I) enjoyed the happy dances!!
Hope&Joy - I find when I have to defrost a freezer, that a hair blow dryer & plastic turner helps a lot. I aim the dryer on the metal just above the ice, and use the turner to pry the ice loose once the surface of the ice against the metal has melted. I put the food in coolers while I work.
Ha! Hadn’t thought of a hair dryer…have used a fan and a heater at a safe distance. I will get my hair dryer and depart just in case I need it. Thank you Rmom ( I put my food in ice chests and sat outside anyway)
Rmom–I hear you on all counts. The season sure does get hectic. But, if you remember its reason, it helps. And good art, music, drama helps us remember.
The local Christmas Concert will begin in about an hour–so I only have so long here…
I once defrosted the freezer compartment of an old refrigerator. The freezer compartment had the coolant lines exposed in the aluminum top and sides. I found out why using a screwdriver and hammer to break up the ice wasn’t a good idea.
You’re welcome, Hope&Joy! I have to do our chest freezer whenever we buy 1/2 of beef (about once every year or so). The freezing compartment in the trailer my hubby stays in, isn’t frostless either, which means I’ve had to do that a few times so far. The hair dryer never gets hot enough to damage the freezer, but if the dryer gets overheated, mine just quits until it cools down and then it is fine.
bmonk - I’ve cut out a lot of the Christmas activities that I used to think were required, because they just wore me out. Now, the only Christmas decorations I have up is a Nativity set, but I can enjoy looking at other people’s decorations. Gift wrapping is at a minimum, since my guys think that’s a waste anyway. Cards & a newsy letter are about the only other thing I keep doing, because if I don’t send one out, then we lose touch with old friends. It is easier to focus on the reason we celebrate, if we’re not worn out. I’d probably add in a few other activities, but decided that if my family didn’t enjoy doing them too, those weren’t important enough to me to do them by myself or make my family endure them.
SojournerThe Fourth Kind is supposedly based on some happenings in Nome, Alaska. It’s an ok flick, but it’s bogus. Nothing like that going on. If you get a chance to see it ‘free’, go ahead, but I wouldn’t pay $$ for it.
Luv - I guess I’ve preferred more practical math. I like geometry (although I didn’t have to write out proofs when I took it) because I could see where knowing the volume or surface area of a container could come in handy. (How much gift wrap do I need to cover this box?) Accounting wasn’t too bad, although it can get boring. At least I could see why that was important (fighting the IRS & winning helps), and companies need to make profits to stay in business, so they need to be able to have a “scoresheet” to see how they’re doing.
Algebra is okay, if we’re solving for variables. But if there’s still a variable in the answer, I don’t feel like I’ve solved the puzzle.
Quaby, are you ever going to get a free photobucket account so you can put pictures of your work up for us to see sometimes? Oh…….. Sojo ate all the pudding. Do you have more?
Hi LuvH8, Quaby, Sojo Bye gmonk..hope you sing “O Come Emanuel” It is one of my very favorites that we did this year. I remember hearing it at St. Margaret’s next to Westminister Abbey and near the Houses of Parliment at Christmastime service…such a lovely setting for music and words.
Rmom 15 minutes 15minutes after I blew the hairdryer, I had wiped out the moisture and began to restock. Fantastic. All it needed was a little more encouragement.
Hi, Quaby! - I was wishing I’d remembered to buy some pudding when I was shopping today. Thanks!
Hope&Joy - I’m glad my advice was helpful. Once I get the chunks of frost loose, I scoop them up with my turner and put them in a bucket or something, so there is less moisture to wipe out.
Yes, I used a bucket too sitting close by to empty the chunks into so all that is left to do is wipe down the sides and racks with a paper towel….ours is an upright.
No more freezer talk…blechy Thanks for the happy dance.
RMom, buy pudding? Try mixing sugar, milk, eggs, vanilla and stirring it on a stove until it’s at a boil I’m still having thickness problems but it’s getting better.
Quaby - I buy it ready-made because I’m the only one in this household who likes pudding. Just a few ounces at a time is enough to satisfy my craving for it. The little cups to put in a kid’s lunch is what I usually buy. They have a long shelf life, and keep me from eating too much just because I hate to throw it away.
