Our snow started late yesterday afternoon–one mission called to cancel because you couldn’t get into the churchyard; I canceled the other this morning because with 2-4 inches of light fluffy stuff (and more still coming), and the sun not really rising until well after 7:00, I really didn’t want to drive blind for 15 miles…
At least for the home parish I don’t have to drive–and the parishioners can choose for themselves.
@♠Lonewolf♠, they have pool competitions? In what, synchronized swimming? Water Football?? Pool Croquet???
Grog: It didn’t feel like daylight here at 8 a.m. in Darkest Saskatchewan, either. But that’s because the sun didn’t rise until 8:57. You being 2850 km south of me (by road) would mean, of course, that the sun rises earlier for you. I’m slightly envious of that, for another couple of months.

Good morning all. My, those pancakes smell good. Thanks, Little Sister!
I can relate. I lived in Edmonton for 2 and a half years. Hated the long winter nights but loved the long summer days. Though I might have loved them even more without the mosquitos.
Ah, yes; mosquitoes… And grasshoppers. Ew. Thank you Grog, for that reminder. Or not. :)
The only good part about winter is that grasshoppers and mosquitoes aren’t around. The only good thing about -40 for a week or two is that it kills grasshopper eggs; intense, prolonged cold snaps can also allow grain in large bins to cool sufficiently to kill some bug in the wheat. If the bins are large enough, y’see, the grain stays warm all winter. If the farmer stores it without properly drying it first, the grain can get warm enough to combust.
Too bad the intense cold didn’t kill the mosquito eggs. I don’t recall seeing much of grasshoppers though. Though we did seem to have an infestation of them one year in Montreal when I was young. You couldn’t go anywhere without stepping on one or getting them all over you. Ick!
Thank you, Sojo. It wasn’t looking too good after the first two matches but we ended up winning 3-1 and didn’t need to play the fifth match. The team we play next week is a stronger team.

♥Little Sister♥ I thought your packing and moving is completed by now?

I am learning more people are hooking Internet to TV and not having cable or dish hooked up. If Internet stalls doesn’t that spoil the show one watches. I have high speed Internet from lap top doesn’t help with stalling.
I think MC is rushing and not being poised Panicking! Sad but they are a young team. This latest fumble by Cassel should be overturned and YES…an incomplete pass but still not good!

If there’s a lot of wind with blowing snow an open field doesn’t show as much snowfall as actually occured. I remember in 1972 we had a lot of snow. According to the weather people we had I think 11 inches but most areas were 3 to 4 feet deep. There was a snow drift that actually went over the roof a neighbors house. Cars couldn’t get out for a few days but I was able to get out every day on my motorcycle be treading a path by foot and then riding through the path I made. Took a long time to go a mile the first day.
What we get in Warrensburg is different than in KC usually…either less or more. It is amazing how the weather can change in a 50-60 mile radius. We had a 1/2 inch of rain that Kc didn’t get about 9 days ago. We had watered roses by hand because our sprinklers were winterized and the weather people had said “no significant rain”
I wouldn’t have liked to make a path like you did, but if it’s the only way out, then you go for it.
I saw KU win. As they had a large led in the first half I quit watching. I tuned in and they were in the middle of overtime! Should of kept a closer watch.
Hi, Wolfie!
We got some snow here this afternoon. We’re not supposed to get as much as Sojo or Kab, and no one really knows until it is all over, how much. My hubby did decide he ought to drive to his trailer tonight, since it is supposed to get heavier as the night progresses. He said the road had some slick spots, but at least he’s there.
Hello all so far not as bad on snow, hubby looking at radar shows a slowed down snow.
One of my car problems and I have a question how long can a Serpentine belt last on a car?
Place we took our car said it is cracking. We had it replaced not cheap as I don’t want it to break leaving me stranded.
Wolfie - Me too! He would have liked for me to go with him, but I wasn’t too eager about that idea. Highs in the 20’s, lows in the single digits make me want to stay home where it is warm!
Rmom glad your hubby made it also.
The Sojourner when you see this message I remember 1972 as well. I got out of school for awhile. When local tv station had this guy who did all types of jobs for station said then no snow and no accumulation. Didn’t care what other stations said no snow.
Back to work large snowball in glass dish an he was too embarrassed to face viewers. That snow was deep.
Hi, Kab!
I also remember that snowstorm. What was normally a 10 minute drive home from church took us 2 1/2 hours. We also had a couple families who got snowed in with us, who had been at our church that morning. One family who lived close to Wellington, drove into Wichita for church each week, and their friends from OKC were up to visit. Thankfully, my parents owned a rental house next door to ours, and the renters were on a temporary out-of-state assignment. So, the two families slept over there, and walked to our house for meals. It was a good thing that Mom always kept a lot of food in the house!
In 1972 I graduated from HS in 1975. I may have been in JR HS when this happened, then no school.
Watching news now. So far 85 accidents in ICT looks like one car flipped over over at I235 looks like some schools are closing for Monday.
I agree with you your parent’s were prepared and very nice to those families. Not sure if my parent’s would be.
I’m about ready to turn in my hair is drying nicely
For all the others who commented who snow affected them I feel for them just hope we don’t get that bad here. Good night all.
Kab - That’s the problem with a 5th wheel trailer, no skirting, so the floor is pretty cold. It gets expensive to run enough heat to keep it comfortable all day, so usually he just keeps it warm enough to prevent the pipes from freezing. Of course, if I was there, we’d spend the $ on running the heat. But when I’m there, I don’t stay in the trailer all the time. Not much of a kitchen, no dishwasher, washer, dryer or garage. It is fine for him, since he spends most of his time at work, but too boring for me to stay there the whole week.
I got home about 20 minutes ago from a meeting; a 3 km walk, with some sidewalks under 2 feet of White Stuff. Other sidewalks have been cleaned, and they’re still slick with packed snow and ice.
In summer, it’s a 30 minute walk for me. Tonight it took an hour. I hate winter.
Hi, Sojo!Kab - My sister graduated from high school in 74, so you’re pretty close in age. She would have been a sophomore that year. The family who lived near Wellington were very old friends of my mom - she had known both the husband & wife since they were in 2nd or 3rd grade in a one-room school house. Mom & Dad were always very hospitable, but I don’t know that they would have trusted just anyone to stay in the renter’s house. They knew the other family before too, just not quite as well.
♥Little Sister♥ - It was a good day although it would of been better if the Chiefs won. However KU basketball and the Packers did win! Glad your almost finished moving.

Took a long time to go a mile the first day.

I love the way the Packers are getting to Vick. I hope they can keep it up.

Good Night Grog.

Good night, Grog. Catch you in the morrow.
hopeandjoy2 almost 14 years ago
Goodnight Grog in case you are still around.
Duke is playing Maryland on Fox Sports so will check it out, of course.
No snow here.
George Arnold almost 14 years ago
I saw KU win. As they had a large led in the first half I quit watching. I tuned in and they were in the middle of overtime! Should of kept a closer watch.
COWBOY7 almost 14 years ago
That’s weird. Here, the football game is being carried by Fox. Must be area programming.
COWBOY7 almost 14 years ago
Poor choice for Michael Vick on that last throw.
It’s Da Bears and the Seahawks next week!
hopeandjoy2 almost 14 years ago
Fox carried our Eagles game too. Hope Da Bears hand it to those guys in the strange uniforms with white socks…I DO like the Hawk head, however.
COWBOY7 almost 14 years ago
I’m hoping so too, Hopeandjoy♫. Once again, I like your avatar. :^)
hopeandjoy2 almost 14 years ago
Thanks, Lonewolf Your avatars are always good. Back to Duke.

Hi, tribe!

That snow is coming our way, Doc.
COWBOY7 almost 14 years ago
Hi, Rmom & Doc.
Catch you on the flip side, Doc.

COWBOY7 almost 14 years ago
Glad he made it alright, Rmom.

Hello all so far not as bad on snow, hubby looking at radar shows a slowed down snow. One of my car problems and I have a question how long can a Serpentine belt last on a car? Place we took our car said it is cracking. We had it replaced not cheap as I don’t want it to break leaving me stranded.
Smiley Rmom almost 14 years ago
Wolfie - Me too! He would have liked for me to go with him, but I wasn’t too eager about that idea. Highs in the 20’s, lows in the single digits make me want to stay home where it is warm!
kab2rb almost 14 years ago
I will watch the news for a little while waiting for hair to dry then turning in.
kab2rb almost 14 years ago
Rmom glad your hubby made it also. The Sojourner when you see this message I remember 1972 as well. I got out of school for awhile. When local tv station had this guy who did all types of jobs for station said then no snow and no accumulation. Didn’t care what other stations said no snow. Back to work large snowball in glass dish an he was too embarrassed to face viewers. That snow was deep.

Rmom does that trailer get cold your husband goes to?
Smiley Rmom almost 14 years ago

Have a safe drive to and from work Doctor Toon.
Hello Rmom!
kab2rb almost 14 years ago
I agree with you your parent’s were prepared and very nice to those families. Not sure if my parent’s would be. I’m about ready to turn in my hair is drying nicely For all the others who commented who snow affected them I feel for them just hope we don’t get that bad here. Good night all.

Rmom when is college start for you and your sons?
George Arnold almost 14 years ago
Good Night ♥Kab♥.
Smiley Rmom almost 14 years ago
Kab - That’s the problem with a 5th wheel trailer, no skirting, so the floor is pretty cold. It gets expensive to run enough heat to keep it comfortable all day, so usually he just keeps it warm enough to prevent the pipes from freezing. Of course, if I was there, we’d spend the $ on running the heat. But when I’m there, I don’t stay in the trailer all the time. Not much of a kitchen, no dishwasher, washer, dryer or garage. It is fine for him, since he spends most of his time at work, but too boring for me to stay there the whole week.

Kab: What’s ICT, please?
gosfreikempe almost 14 years ago
I got home about 20 minutes ago from a meeting; a 3 km walk, with some sidewalks under 2 feet of White Stuff. Other sidewalks have been cleaned, and they’re still slick with packed snow and ice.
In summer, it’s a 30 minute walk for me. Tonight it took an hour. I hate winter.
George Arnold almost 14 years ago
Saskfan - ICT is the aviation identification for Wichita.
gosfreikempe almost 14 years ago
Oh, I wouldn’t have guessed that! Thanks.
George Arnold almost 14 years ago
Saskfan - I’m glad you have that snow and not us! :-)
gosfreikempe almost 14 years ago
Sojo: You’re welcome. I guess. :)
Smiley Rmom almost 14 years ago
Hi, Sojo! Kab - My sister graduated from high school in 74, so you’re pretty close in age.

Hi, Saskfan! Kab - My sons’ first class is on the 20th. My first class is on the 24th.

Good Night Rmom and Saskfan.
Hello HopeandJoy♫ and ♥Little Sister♥!
LittleSister18 almost 14 years ago
Sojo How was your day? :-)
George Arnold almost 14 years ago
♥Little Sister♥ - It was a good day although it would of been better if the Chiefs won. However KU basketball and the Packers did win! Glad your almost finished moving.
LittleSister18 almost 14 years ago
Kansas City Chiefs lost! That seems kind of odd, as good a team as they are this year.
George Arnold almost 14 years ago
They sure didn’t do anything today!
LittleSister18 almost 14 years ago
Guess I’ll look forward to Da Bears as you guys put it.
