Hi, friends!
I just heard on the radio that they’ve upped the forecast for Wichita to up to a foot of snow. My web sources are still saying 5”-9”. And to think they thought we’d only get about 4”-6” before this snowfall started.
I can’t stay in I just need to be careful. I don’t need to travel elevated roads. I will look for tire tracks that stay on the road or I will drive middle of road if necessary.
bmonk, I may have to watch The Cowboys 10 greatest games that I have on DVD to get me through February. But I think I’ll be OK once we get into March. Once into March, the temperatures will be rising into the 70’s & low 80’s and I can start enjoy doing some outdoor stuff on those Sunday afternoons..
Hello Rmom! - It may take a while for this to melt due to the cold (snow is a good insulator). It’s 10° F now. TV weather I’m watching just said they have up’ed the total to 8” to 10”. Just have to see what happens.
Went to bed exhausted yesterday, and still have a bunch of clean up to do from our Super Bowl party. I love giving parties, but there’s so much to put away after wards. Wish I had one of these Big Top Virtual Cleaner-uppers!
We had 6 inches of snow Sunday night and Monday. It was quite a bit chilly too, 1 degree this a.m. We have the best neighbor in the world….he plowed our driveway this a.m. so we can get out. :))
bmonk , you should be getting this snow today or tomorrow.
Hi, Sojo, Grog & MontanaLady!
Now that the local schools, etc. have announced closings, it looks like (to me anyway) that the snow is moving up north a bit, so maybe our area won’t get as much as they were afraid. Back to the 5”-9” forecast. Still, with as cold as it is, it won’t melt fast.
Grog - I haven’t read what the Wichita Public Schools are going to do, they’re already out of snow days. There’s always Spring Break they could shorten. In KS, they’re required to have so many days per year (at least 180, maybe more, I’d have to read the law again).
I don’t think the colleges are required to make up the days, so it doesn’t affect us. My prof had us bring flash drives to load the files we needed to do our work, so if we need to miss class, we could do it at home (if we have the right software) or go to the computer lab at school.
In many states they have only a couple of built-in snow days, with a few more they can make up–like not getting off Easter Monday or other holidays, or adding days at the end of the year. More than that, and the governor (or someone) has to “forgive” the excess lost days.
Grog - Looks like a little excitement close to you…
“A series of explosions triggered a massive fire at Enterprise Products Mont Belvieu, Texas”
News article
bmonk - Just read the story on the Wichita’s district. They had 5 snow days figured in, but they used those up before this week. I don’t think the governor has the power to exempt them for the law. However, the article said there are still several options.
Adding days at the end of the year, extending the length of the day (law is written in days or hours), and supposedly they have other options, but the article didn’t state what they are.
It’s the first I’ve heard of it, Rmom. Before I left for work, I saw a story about a raging fire outside of Dallas. Forget exactly where though.. But I saw footage in tthe dark. Massive fire, seemingly no fire vehicles around at that time, which was just after 5:30
Hello all. I made it okay to work and back. Parts of the road are clear and some with snow depends on tree line.
I also talked to a lady who has worked with Wichita Public school district and spring break is already schedule, what officials are not sure if extend the school year or add an another hour.
My brother-in-law measured snow in his back yard they live further north of Wichita and received 13”. They have to go to Wichita Wednesday evening for the home show fo their product they sell.
Kab - Glad you made it home okay. I heard Newton could get a foot of snow, but hadn’t heard the forecast for any of the other towns north of ICT. It tapered off here, but it isn’t over yet, either.
