I’ve been looking it up and found I was wrong as they are all over the world. What got be off was it’s widespread distribution here. As they are eddible the earlier pioneers to the west spread seeds along the wagon train trails so following wagon trains would have food. This spread them across the country more than they were if what I was once told is correct.

Or dandelion wine! Blanching the leaves first helps get rid of the bitter tast. I’ve had them several times and they are good (to me). They also are at least a good weed bringing nutrients up to shallow root plants.

I think all parts you can eat but I’d check that out. Different parts, times of growth, seasons etc. are important in some plants. All of parts of cattails any time of year can be eaten. The roots can be dried and pounder for flour etc. I tried cooking some leaves once but couldn’t get them tender. Also some parts of some plants have to be cooked to be safe.

The Sojourner I have watched Tom Selleck on Jesse Stone. I used to when he was on Magnum PI. Character Jesse Stone does a lot of drinking but never drunk and very sharp. Reminds me of Lt. Columbo with Peter Falk a gentler side of Jesse Stone.

Tom Selleck has a grown daughter. Not sure if he is still married. His actual home is Hawaii.
