For the life of me, I can’t think of anything appropriate for both the event and for the comic, save for banana splits made to order. Some other kind soul will have to make the breakfast menu…

Good Morning Doc and Montana Lady!

I also watched the Curiosity event from NASA’s web site last night. I wasn’t sure my tablet could show it (I use it from bed) but it worked fine.

Sojo, I most certainly do remember the connection between Tang & NASA. That goes back to the 70’s at least – if not the 60’s.

    Hi Molly, Grog and Jkiss!

After searching for awhile I found this ad for 1959. It looks like that’s when Tang came out.Tang Breakfast Drink 1959 Ad. This color September 15, 1959 ad states Wake up to Tang. New breakfast drink discovery with more Vitamin C than orange juice.

Alain – Thinking about it has brought back a lot of memories to me. I remember when it first came out but was having a hard time with when. I thought it must if been in the late 50’s or shortly therafter. After you posted I decided to try again to find out when and did another search on the web. Following is what I found in less then a minute. One just has to know how to phrase what you’re looking for, which in this case wasn’t easy.

Tang is a fruit-flavored drink. Originally formulated by General Foods Corporation food scientist William A. Mitchell in 1957, it was first marketed in powdered form in 1959.

Sales of Tang were poor until NASA used it on John Glenn’s Mercury flight (1962), and subsequent Gemini missions.

Since then, it was closely associated with the U.S. manned spaceflight program, leading to the misconception that Tang was invented for the space program. The Tang brand is currently owned by Kraft Foods.
