My Dad bought one new car in 1963. The salesman sent him Christmas cards for the next 10-15 years. I think he retired or died before Dad bought another new vehicle in 1992.

I haggled for days to get a good price on a new car. Closed the deal. Next day we got a bouquet of flowers from the dealership. First reaction; Damn! I paid too much!

My Honda dealer sends me plenty of Emails about “sales events”, but come to think of it, I don’t think they’ve ever wished me a happy birthday. Well now I just feel hurt.

In 1996, I developed carpal tunnel syndrome at work, requiring surgery; of course, the company tried to deny liability, so I had to sue them for my back pay for the time off (and won).

I have had no contact with my lawyer since the court date, and have moved 5 times since then; I still get birthday & Christmas cards from him every year.

And don’t get me started on college alumni associations; forget the US Marshals Service – if you want to find a fugitive, put those folks on it (but you’d tell them the miscreant might contribute………)

I remember the late movies on TV. Commercials were often car dealerships in the LA area. Cal Worthington with his “dog” Spot and Ralph Williams Ford in Encino (world’s LARGEST Ford (soon to be AUTOMOBILE) Dealership !!!) among others.

How wonderful to know, in this cold and cruel world, that someone really cares!
