“From the old neighborhood, where I thought they would stay.”
I wouldn’t call that ‘nothing’.
“Who are you calling ‘old’?”
We got a problem with that job we pulled 5 years ago .We must talk now !
You thought you could just leave us behind and start a new life? Pretty poor parenting.
He’s behind on his protection payments.
Those are good to have.
They just popped over from the Pet Sematary
And they don’t look happy.
Old friends, old friends
Sat on their park bench like bookends
A newspaper blown through the grass
Falls on the round toes
Of the high shoes of the old friends
Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sunset
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settle like dust on the shoulders of the old friends
Can you imagine us years from today
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange to be 70
Old friends, memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fears
Not close friends mind you, just old……
