I had to look this one up. It’s the 3rd line of Mother Goose nursery rhyme, “Peter, Peter, pumpkin eater.” Internet article gives racy origins to this one -e.g. pumpkin shell = chastity belt; or murdered unfaithful wife’s corpse hidden in pumpkin shell. Back in high school, a classmate did a report of the backstory of seemingly harmless nursery rhymes - she didn’t include this one in her oral report.
Once I left an uncarved pumpkin on a stone wall near the house as a decoration. A few days later I noticed two squirrel-sized holes on opposite sides of the pumpkin, and nothing left inside of it. That must have been one well stuffed squirrel.

“Peter, Peter, pumpkin eater /Had a wife but couldn’t keep her / Put her in a pumpkin shell…” So that’s what happened to yesterday’s free loving cat.
