Be Polite! It's Cellphone Courtesy Month
by GoComicsCellphones changed everything.
How we communicate with our friends, family and strangers is now drastically different than it was five, 10 or 15 years ago. The constant innovation of cell phones keeps us learning and relearning how to keep in touch with one another.
But what if we are too "in touch" with one another?
In light of Cellphone Courtesy Month, let's take a look at our own lives to consider when it's appropriate to catch up with our Instagram followers, and when it's best to keep the phone tucked away:
The movie theater? Not a great place for a conversation.
Never, we repeat, never talk on the phone while checking out at any kind of store. Cellphones seem to make us blindly disrespectful. If you love coffee, don't make your barista dislike you. We promise: Getting a good cup of coffee from a happy barista is more important than whatever your bestie is blabbering about.
If your "Baby Got Back" Sir-Mix-A-Lot ringtone goes off in a religious service - don't say we didn't warn you!
Have you ever noticed everyone around you staring blankly at their phone screens? A little sad, isn't it? Break your gaze and read a book or strike up a conversation with someone who looks like they need it. Let's act a little more like humans and less like robots!
Finally: LOOK UP. There's a beautiful world around us. Don't miss it because you think you need to see what people on the other side of the country are doing.
Know when to put your phone in your bag and forget about it for a few hours. Being connected is great, but actually living your life is better.
Happy Cellphone Courtesy Month!
