Kid Beowulf: A New Adventure Begins
by GoComicsKid Beowulf creator Lex Fajardo fills us in on the latest and greatest storyline.
Another new adventure begins for twin brothers Beowulf and Grendel - this time in the far-flung reaches of France! "Kid Beowulf and the Song of Roland" begins today on GoComics, picking up where Beowulf and Grendel left off in June. This story is inspired by the French epic poem, "The Song of Roland," which takes place during the late 8th century, when France was ruled by Charlemagne and he was at war with the Saracen empire. Roland was his best knight and led an elite fighting force known as "The Peers" (like The Avengers, but French) - the epic poem is about Roland's betrayal by his step-father, Ganelon, a massive battle between the French and Saracens in the Pyrenees mountains, and Charlemagne's ultimate victory over the Saracens.
My version is a little more lighthearted as it follows Beowulf and Grendel on a search for their Uncle Holger, who has become a Peer in France. The brothers will discover a country in peril, as King Charlemagne is ailing, his knights have been exiled, and his young nephew, Roland, needs a kick in the pants. The story is filled with action, intrigue, and fantasy, and has giants, elephants, and rollercoasters to boot! France's fate will be tied to Beowulf and Grendel as they try to unite the kingdom before it's invaded by a blood-thirsty Saracen horde!
You can start reading today, and the strip will update four days a week, Monday through Thursday. Grab some downloadable wallpaper for your computer while you're at it. Thanks for reading!
