15 'The Argyle Sweater' Comics For Argyle Day

We sat down to write this to wish you a happy Argyle Day with 15 The Argyle Sweater comics, but before we could do that, we had to read up on what "Argyle" actually was (fortunately, we're versed in sweaters). We always assumed it just meant "diamond-y," but it turns out there's an entire 300-ish-word Wikipedia entry about it!

Did you know argyle patterns are made of diamonds AND lozenges? That's right, next time you have a cold you can pop some argyle for sore throat relief. But get certified organic argyle if you want the full effect.

Argyle was developed not by two MIT students who are disrupting the tech industry, but by "the tartan of Clan Campbell, of Argyll in western Scotland" circa the 17th century. The Scottish Highlanders liked the look of it on kilts, socks and probably face tattoos. It made The Quickening more dramatic if they were decapitated in battle, finally succumbing to mortality. Pretty badass.

Some other things happened over several hundred years, but they're mostly boring and have to do with men's fashion. All you need to know is Scott Hilburn was inspired by the pattern's rich history because he, " ...thought it sounded right. And the domain name was available." We're guessing the people who made up Argyle Day had similar motivations.
