Nine Times Garfield (Indirectly) Wished His Creator A Happy Birthday

As evidenced by the approximately 150+ comics on the matter, Garfield LOVES his birthday -- particularly for the opportunity to request massive birthday cakes. Garfield creator Jim Davis is far less gluttonous, however, as his July 28th birthday is only expressed by his sort-of-avatar Jon Arbuckle a handful of times over his strip's some four decades in daily syndication. Maybe the 71-year-old creator, who employs a number of assistants, is just letting his staff have some fun? Though Jon remains Garfield's emotional punching bag (or scratching post), you can feel the love that the Garf crew has for JD in these eight fun strips, starting with a 2001 installment.
