PANELS
Gender Identity: Understanding Through Art
PANELISTS: Dana Simpson, Tami Stronach, Molly Osterly, Michael Gianfrancesco
TIME: Thursday, 10/5 from 12:15-1:15
LOCATION: 1B03
At the forefront of modern social debate is the nature of gender identity and how we move forward culturally with new understanding of the diversity within. Many contemporary graphic novels directly and indirectly address this debate by providing fictional and non-fictional representations of individuals expressing and explaining how the definitions of both identity and gender have evolved. This panel will explore how this discussion can enter into the classroom and which texts could be vital in crystallizing an understanding of this complex topic.
Relatability in Comics--Capturing Day to Day Life
PANELISTS: Sarah Andersen (Sarah’s Scribbles), Loryn Brantz (Lady Stuff) Brian Gordon (Fowl Language)
TIME: Thursday, 10/5 from 4:30-5:30
LOCATION: Hudson Mercantile - 500 W 36th St
MODERATOR: Tall Tale radio host Tom Racine
Join Sarah Andersen (Sarah’s Scribbles), Loryn Brantz (Lady Stuff) Brian Gordon (Fowl Language) as moderator and Tall Tale radio host Tom Racine visits with these contemporary comic artists, for whom relatability is a hallmark of their work. Don’t miss this undoubtedly entertaining and lively discussion about their refreshing takes on the inherent humor – and poignancy – of everyday life.
See you at Booth #2219!
