Big Nate creator Lincoln Peirce was honored by The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System with the Milner Award this month, joining the ranks of Judy Blume, R.L. Stine, Jeff Kinney, Dav Pilkey, and other prolific authors in a 34-year celebration of elementary schoolchildren entertainment.

Created by the Friends of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System in 1982 via the donation of Vera Milner, the Milner Award sees area elementary school readers vote for their favorite creator to come to town.

Peirce won this year and traveled to the Georgia State University Rialto Center for the Arts a visit on October 3rd, where he gave a presentation about his nearly three-decade career as a cartoonist to more than 1,600 students. Peirce accepted his award from third-grader Ethan Stack, under emcee Gabriel Morley, Director of The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System.

Unlike awards, however, no Big Nate-style noogies or wedgies were given or received at the ceremony.
