In 1333 BC, the nine-year-old Tutankhamun became Tutankhaten, Pharaoh of Egypt. He was sickly, married to his half-sister, and dead ten years later. So why's he so famous? It's because today in 1922, an archeologist found his tomb in pretty decent shape. As such, historians, scientists, and others have been able to study Tut's reign more than many other mummies. Or maybe he's so well-known because of Steve Martin's catchy Saturday Night Live song? In either case, Marmaduke's neighbors named their Siamese cat after him.

Marmaduke's King Tut is something of a regal foil to the title's more rough-and-tumble Great Dane. Unlike Mar's kitty pal, Carlos, King Tut prefers to gaslight Marm the way only a cat can. If it seems like the most realistic animal behavior in the strip, it's probably because King Tut is based on Marmaduke creator Brad Anderson's real life cat from the early '90s of the same name.
