Real Life Adventures Turns 25!
by GoComicsToday (March 24) we're celebrating the 25th anniversary of Real Life Adventures from creators Gary Wise and Lance Aldrich. Real Life Adventures editor Gillian Titus offers her thoughts on their achievement.
Everyone. Everyone. Please. May I have a moment of your time? Thank you. Today is a very special day for two of our creators, Gary Wise and Lance Aldrich. Sorry, two of our favorite creators. You see, it was 25 years ago today that their very enjoyable strip Real Life Adventures launched. This is a great day for Gary and Lance, obviously, but it's also a pretty good day for me because it gives me a chance to tell you why you should be reading it. (If you already are, good. You know what I'm talking about.)
The reason is simple. It's right there in the title, in fact. These guys aren't so much creators but curators of this wonderful adventure called "Real Life," archiving the madness of the everyday, if you will:
Every unplanned visit to the doctor.
Every restaurant faux pas.
Every stressful presentation at the office.
Every panicked call to the financial adviser.
Every sweaty, breathless moment of anxiety.
Every poor marital decision.
It's droll. It's timely. It's the truth. And while the truth can sometimes hurt, it's also really funny. This is where Gary and Lance come in. They see the humor in all of it, and they remind us to laugh.
As a proud Midwesterner, I couldn't be happier for Gary Wise and Lance Aldrich, two really decent Midwestern fellows whose Real Life Adventures is turning 25 today. As a professional comics editor and amateur comics adviser, I strongly urge you to check it out.
