With comics about fictitious self-help books, invented German words that describe real conditions, and the befuddling, deja-vu-inducing experience of reading the Sunday New York Times, Dana Jeri Maier's "The Worried Well" hits all my sweet spots. Much like GoComics alum Incidental Comics, "The Worried Well" is a thinking person's comic, with self-reflective themes and enough white space to allow for both Maier's detailed drawings and the readers' own contemplation of the subjects. If "The Worried Well" at times feels like a bevy of previously unnamed neuroses, it's no accident: Maier states that the name of the comic is also an idea she has for a therapy-themed bar. Speaking of drinking, "The Worried Well" features of plenty of that subject, too. In fact, there might be no better way to read this comic than with a handcrafted cocktail in hand. Since I do most of my comic reading at work, I might have to choose the innovative, non-alcoholic "all garnish" shown above. However you choose to imbibe and process this fantastic feature, be sure to check it out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday right here on GoComics.
