Dan Thompson's "Li'l Rip Haywire Adventures: Escape from Camp Cooties" was released today (March 1)!
Those of you who know Rip Haywire as a dashing man of action and lover of all things flammable and/or slathered in a fiery top-secret sauce might be surprised to learn that he was once a normal little kid, although one with more combat experience than is the norm among the short-pants set.
Like most tykes, Li'l Rip lived a life filled with discovery, wonder and learning, most of it found when helping his soldier-of-fortune dad carry out wicked-dangerous, super-duper-covert missions in some of the kid-unfriendliest places around the world.
But that all changes when Rip's dad, concerned about his child's globetrotting and violence-prone lifestyle, decides to make some changes: Rip has to keep a daily journal and make some friends his own age. To help him out, Rip's dad enrolls him in a summer camp -- an all-girls summer camp. From there, things really go bananas as Rip navigates the unfamiliar dangers of bullies, bossy counselors and super tricky arts and crafts. And there's a treasure hunt and a booby-trap-filled pyramid in there for good measure, too. Li'l Rip details it all in his whimsically illustrated journal, "Li'l Rip Haywire: Escape From Camp Cooties," which is packed full of smelly bad guys, vicious ice-cream fights, swashbuckling escapes and puzzles and mazes for readers to help Rip solve. In the end, readers will learn that even the toughest kid needs a little help, and that friendship can be more powerful than a well-placed land mine.
