It is a crock, according to the research I just did. The damage is done by the sugar and caffeine in most sodas. And I’d rather drink the regular stuff, just limit quantities (artificial sweeteners make my teeth itch)..“Carbonation, in and of itself, is unlikely to hurt you. Despite what you may have heard, it won’t leach calcium from your bones, and it doesn’t cause dehydration or weight gain — at least, not directly. Still, moderation might be your best policy, especially if your favorite carbonated drinks are sugary or caffeinated ones.” http://woman.thenest.com/carbonation-metabolism-16245.html.“Carbonated water does not impede the body’s ability to burn fat effectively. Fat is stored in the form of triglycerides inside the fat cell. These triglycerides are broken off and turned into the fuel for our body known as adenosine triphosphate or ATP, and then used in the cell for energy production. The carbon dioxide contained in the carbonated water does not reach the cellular level to be able to interfere with the fat burning process.” http://www.livestrong.com/article/421586-does-carbonated-water-prevent-the-body-from-burning-fat/.And there were plenty more!
