I ask again, why does Opus go out of his way to help Steve?

He’s just a dumb animal, easily swayed by those higher on the evolutionary scale. (Not much higher, in the case of Steve, but higher.)

I think Opus is also under the threat of violence sometimes.

Actually they would be equal since evolution is a myth. Nothing evolved, it was just an aberration that wasn’t recognized as prey by its’ predator and thereby survived to procreate.

But that's just what evolution is! (Of course, ‘wasn’t recognized as prey by its predator’ is only one example of a beneficial aberration/variation.)

You probably know that and were just joking, but people often don't quite realise how simple evolution is. I have heard earnest creationists say almost exactly the same sentence.
