Somehow I just can’t picture June Cleaver having sex, much less squeezing out Wally and The Beav.

I would have expected Robert Young and Jane Wyatt, or Ozzie and Harriet Nelson.

The first married couple to share a bed was the Douglass in Green Acres. They even had a hip red velvet bed.

For younger people who may not get the reference, Ward and June Cleaver were the parents of Wally and Theodore who was better known as the Beaver on the 1950’s-60’s TV show, ‘Leave it to Beaver’. That program kinda set the standard for what American family life was supposed to be like back then even though it could not have been less representative. That program had a first for American TV by depicting a toilet in an episode where the boys adopt a pet alligator. Though only the tank was shown, it was a huge milestone in TV land where people apparently were not subject to the usual human bodily functions resulting from consuming food.

It was particularly curious in westerns when bad guys …. and sometimes women…. were put in a jail cell with no apparent sanitary features. I guess the writers figured we would just have to use our imaginations.

C’mon, Ward was a gentleman. He helped June with the dishes, cleaned out the garage without being nagged. The sleaze in this strip couldn’t touch his wingtips!
