muskratdottir: it was lady, not lucy… she passed away..she was very old and in a lot of pain…so, we did lose her, just not in the conventional “lost dog” sense.
At first I tried to chase away and discourage the squirrel that wanted to get into my bird feeders, but I was very entranced with watching how they tried to figure out how to get onto the feeders, always outwitting me. Now I place a dish of seed on the ground for what has become two reds squirrels, two grey squirrels and a black squirrel plus a chipmunk.
once in a while, someone will come up to me and tell me a story about how they almost hit a squirrel while driving. i get a real kick out of them saying, “and then i said, ‘get out of the way, bob!’” that right there lets me know i’ve done something well.
One of my favorite memories with my Mom was looking out her kitchen window (as an adult) as we watched the squirrels carry on. It was hysterical on hot, humid days to see them “sprawled” on top of the thin fence with their limbs draping over each side.

I guess we’re all over losing Lucy. I still don’t understand why they didn’t go look for her.

I’m sorry for your loss, Frank. I’ve never lost a dog personally, but I lost a cat that meant a lot to me and I know how hard it can be to move on.

Dry, I don’t see any reason to be verbally abusive to someone who obviously hasn’t been on top of the situation. Cut the person some slack, please.
