Bob all you should need are 2 or 3 pulls to start the mower ;-)
Time to re-build or replace the carburetor …. easy enough even Bob could do it.
Use starter fluid.
Either get a new one, or take it down to the local Ace Hardware for service. Try changing the spark plug first. And, check your gas. Some blends are deliberately formulated to evaporate less easily. It is the vapor that burns, not the liquid.
I never got small engine repair training. Eventually, YouTube showed me how to use a wire from a bread wrapper to clean gunk out of the float bowl.
I used to have to dip the spark plug in gas then reconnect it to start my mower.
My push mower has no engine except the one fueled by ice cream.
One little shot of starting fluid does the job, 1 or 2 pulls.
Time to get it fixed or get a new one
My dad “fixed” the lawnmower in such a way that he’s now the only person who can start it.
Mom and I have gone a few rounds with him over that, and it’s one of the reasons why she and I are looking to just get a battery-powered electric.
