Its not only energy scores that prove Americans are too stupid to put two and two together. I mean, we did elect Shrub twice. I think we took the “Give him another chance” thing slightly too far.

But we didn’t elect Shrub twice. Al Gore won the popular vote in 2000 by over half a million. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0876793.html As for the second time around, what can I say? Nixon got in the second time around too, and that was after the Watergate story had broken. So that rather does look like putting two plus two together and getting “Duhhhh”, doesn’t it. Alas.
