Transcript:
Cindy: Hi, Riley! Would you like to come over to my house and play? Riley: Um...no! Cindy: Are you sure? We're going to do each other's hair and talk about boys and play with beanie babies! Riley: What?!! Why would I ever want to do any of that!? Cindy: Gee, I don't know. I heard that you were listening to Lauryn Hill so I just figured... Riley: Aaarrgh!

Agreed – its not just a girl who wants to be his gal pal, its Whitebread Cindy! She’s like the anti-thug!
Poor guy.

Is Riley being Punk’d?

Boondocks may have been unappreciated in its day. Sometimes thought I was the only one who read it.

I believe it becomes a running joke through the comic’s run that Riley’s “street thug” act is a cover for a soft, gentle nature, and that he actually likes a lot of things considered sensitive and even “girly”.
The grandfather likely did what was best for both boys by getting them out of inner city Chicago. I’ve always liked this strip – it’s very funny and insightful about racial issues, and was perhaps a bit ahead of its time, given the number of newspapers that refused to run it or dropped it after only a few weeks.
