In the quasi-documentary 70s movie, “Marjoe”, Marjoe Gortner, who had been “trained” (like a monkey, he said) to be an evangelical preacher at 14, “exposes” some of the more lamentable aspects of modern Christianity. He goes back on the road in his 20s and rouses believers everywhere using simple, well-worn phrases and gestures. Then, he goes back to the motel room and rolls in the cash collected.
