The loud nasal discharge, which several passengers claimed to have mistaken for "I hate all American infidels," alarmed those on board. The man was hog-tied and locked in the bathroom until the plane landed at O'Hare airport. He was released seven hours later and given 1,000 bonus miles for his inconvenience.

I think this was likely before the Muslim family which was escorted off a plane because they were speaking Arabic to each other, which freaked out the xenophobic white people raised on right wing media.
Publish date says 2001, I think the family was after the invasion of Iraq in 2003, maybe even during Bush’s 2nd term….
