I received my neurosurgeon’s bill for recent brain cancer surgery.
His bill was $50,000 including operating room microscope and MRI equipment.
Medicare approved $198 reimbursement of which Medicare paid $153 and my Supplemental paid the $45 balance.
My opinion: the Surgeon, ranked one of the best in the world, was worth what he charged and the hospital loses nearly $50k each time he performs surgery.
Another: My daughter is an ER Dr. Her company contracts ER Drs. and PAs to several hospitals.
Two of the hospitals are facing bankruptcy due to the very high volume of immigrants seeking medical care with no insurance or $ to pay for hospital services.
One of our nearby hospitals in Phoenix is also in bankruptcy for similar reasons.
Our immigration laws are causing medical care deserts.
Gross overcharging is correct. My wife has significant abdominal surgery to remove a mass. The hospital charged $25.00 per Tylenol and $1500 for facial tissues I brought a bottle and box of tissues from home so she could have them when she needed and a nurse’s aide got mad. When she did, I did and when she threatened me with being removed by the police. I told this nurse’s aide to go ahead and call the police and that as she did, I’d be calling my attorney and asking for the CEO of the hospital.
The charge nurse came in and told the aide to leave . I told the charge nurse that this particular aide had better never be alone with my wife again, not even to bring her more facial tissues (my wife who is very tolerant said the aide was unnecessarily rough with her.)
Long story short, I filed a complaint against the nurse’s aide and was told the matter would be looked into. But that aide was never alone with my wife again.

Isn’t Patient Waiting redundant?

If he is that worried he must have bought into Trumps replacement for the ACA, “Healthcare Reform to Make America Great Again.”
