The US tax code is 6,871 pages long. Politicians (particularly on the left) want to add to it under the guise of ‘making the rich pay their fair share’. Yet these same people oppose closing loopholes and simplifying this bloated monstrosity.

I overlooked a 401k distribution and a company filed an uncorrected W-2 form, resulting in an audit. I would have gotten a larger tax refund if not for those mistakes but the IRS still thought I was trying to pull something and hit me with fines.
