This cartoon doesn’t really make sense because the dog had already brought the stick back in a previous panel and the guy hadn’t thrown it again before he asked the dog to go get his wallet. The cartoon is out of sequence. Sure, the dog could have brought back another stick, but it would have made more sense, I think, to have had the dog bringing back the stick the man had actually thrown.
