My dad made us untangle the lights; not only did it keep us busy but it gave him an excuse to delay putting them up.

I posted once and got a twofer. And delete doesn’t work on the iPad.
We wrap our lights around the cardboard tubes from the gift wrap. That way it’s easy to store and untangle from year to year.
I buy inexpensive, and throw them in the recycler bin and start fresh the next year
