And they are back to talking about that soap opera. I suppose this means that we are going to get another episode of the thing. At least I’ll have a rest from commenting.
I see that Elvis has calmed down and Goldie has her detective skills on the case of Who Shot Brad (or whatever. I can’t remember. I actually am the one grading papers instead of hanging out chatting).
For those who missed Georgia’s post (it was late yesterday), here it is (or check yesterday)" I hate to post with anxious news, but I am humbly asking for good thoughts and hopeful prayers for Lupin, please. The past few couple of weeks he has increasingly been having heavy breathing/breathing difficulty, which has gotten sharply worse the last 48 hours. His usual vet took x-rays today after an anti-inflammatory/antibiotics shot days ago did not improve his breathing. It looks like something may be putting pressure on his lungs from below, but it was hard to tell what it might be right now. I’m waiting at the emergency/specialist vet he sent us to a few towns away. They have Lupin in the back and they are trying to give him some help for his breathing and figure out what is going on… A lot has been ruled out; I’m praying for an answer and that it can be something that can help him. Prayers, thoughts, hopes, good vibes, all of it are so appreciated! I will try to keep folks updated if possible. I’m very anxious." update will follow
Georgia posted an update: Update: I met with the doctor. Lupin’s lungs are filled with fluid and one of his heart chambers is very enlarged. They are fairly certain he may have had heart disease for a bit. It’s not 100% certain, but signs are pointing to that right now. They are going to sedate him and drain the fluid, he is struggling hard to continue to breathe on his own otherwise at the moment. They’re going to analyze the fluid for more answers, and once it is drained the hope is x-rays may be easier to find answers in too. There are risks with the procedure, but he can barely breathe right now, and he’s only nine, he’s previously been so robust and active. I want to give him this chance and ease the pressure on his lungs right now so he can breathe on his own. He is in an oxygen kennel right now, preparing for surgery, and I’m going to stay while they do the procedure. If it is heart disease, the prognosis most likely will still be not great, but right now we’ve got to get the fluid out of his lungs so he can breathe again and see where he could go from there with treatment and medication
Update found by Sue Ellen on Instagram "Second update: Lupin is through the procedure, he did great. He is recovering overnight at the emergency vet’s, getting oxygen, meds, and fluids. They took a lot of fluid out of his lungs and say they could see his oxygenation coming back up. They’re running a bunch of tests and should have more answers tomorrow.
For a couple of months I’ve been debating possibly having an originals sale later this month, and I think that is very likely happening now to cover this vet bill! Stay tuned! I’m so grateful for the care Lupin is getting, I hope that they can have some answers for him and give him some more time, comfortably."
So, the great Clan Ninja war is abated. The Night Ninja confirms that while he studied under Master Splinter, and the turtles and with Master Po’s brilliant tutelage, that his enemy, the Winter Ninja did not.
And based on what he is saying in his simple reporter guise in Panel 2, he definitely studied under Master Poo, from Abbey’s Farm and Kennel. He certainly has the expertise to fling it.
An update on Lupin this morning: Elvis is concerned and I know many of you are too! (Elvis spent the night stressed and looking for Lupin in every room… he plays a good game, but he is very fond of Lupin after all!)
I just spoke with the awesome folks where Lupin is recovering. He did good overnight and he has been weened down to 40% oxygen. He is eating, (this is big, he did not eat for two days!), drinking, and using the litter box! He is also “rolling around and playing and such an outgoing guy!” which made me SO happy to hear, because of course we all know how social Lupin is, but when I brought him in last night he was quiet and limp as a noodle. This is all sounding really promising, thank you SO MUCH for every prayer, kind words, good thought, and hope. They’re going to call me this afternoon to talk about his tests and how he is doing and what to do from there. Fingers crossed for some answers for Lupin and continued improvement and comfort! Much love to everyone, I have been reading your comments each time I open my phone to doom-Google possible outcomes and feel afraid, and you have all been such a comfort during this. Thank you!!
So glad he’s better! Now I need Lupin to send good thoughts over here. Right after I read BCN this am I went to the er with aheart issue. Looks like I’ll be here awhile, but it’s treatable. The worst thing about hospital beds is a distinct lack of cats.
Today I took the oldest boy to get groceries and when we got home he said there were two cats on the roof. One was a black mama cat and the other was an equally black kitten the same size as Update. This has me wondering if we have just seen Update’s mom and sibling. No worries about them being on the roof. The pecan tree in the front yard has several branches that overhang the porch roof that we have to cut back occasionally. They can get down just fine. And no, I’m not going to try and adopt them. I can’t afford any more kitties. Meanwhile Update has to get her second round of shots on Monday.
Day One report from Skipper-the-Elf land: literally everything that could go wrong today did. First the camera didn’t work. Then the programming that uploads the portfolio to the cloud so the customer can see it and choose their photos stopped working. They had to take two of our three terminals offline to troubleshoot that, and then the third printer stopped working. We opened at 11:00 and it was 12:15 before our first customer successfully left with their photos in hand. Also, some time mid-afternoon, the camera’s flash stopped working.
Oh, and then there was the guy who walked on set with his kids and his “Jesus is bigger than Covid” t-shirt who decided to complain about us wearing masks. (Either he was okay with Santa’s face shield, or he didn’t notice it.)
All this and the Starbucks upstairs lost the ability to accept mobile orders, meaning that rather than being caffeinated when the gate first opened, I had to wait until 1:30.
On the positive side, I did have a great time helping a customer who is herself hearing-impaired and demanded to know where I had gotten my “I’m hard of hearing” face mask that many of you have seen in my regular avatar. (Shameless plug: look up “The Monogrammed Masks” on the Book of Faces.)
But, good news! I get to go back tomorrow, when, hopefully, all the bugs will be out of the system, and then I can come home and celebrate The Girl’s first day of being four.

“And definitely my first time seeing it.” Sure thing Lupin. The look on Goldie’s face sure suggests otherwise.

Keeping fingers crossed (and it’s damned difficult to type that way) that the drugs do the job.

You can see Goldie’s eye roll in second panel. Then water cooler talk goes back to Kit’s plight. That Guy, Brad and Snow Ball have. my vote !

You are like sunshine
Bright, fuzzy sunshine
You make us happy
When skies are gray
You must know, dear
How much we love you
Please, Lupin, get well, I pray
