I always knew there was difference in the terms “hobo” and “bum”. They are not interchangable. Hobos work and travel, Bums refuse to work, and move only when forced to by police.
The way are learned it from a Boys’ Life article on hobos ca 1972 is that hobos are migrant workers, tramps are migrant nonworkers, and bums are stationary nonworkers.
